Archie vs Gregg

Recommended Posts

Archie without a doubt. He coaches in a much tougher conference than does Marshall. I respect the hell out of Marshall as a coach because all he has done is win at Winthrop and Wichita State. But those conferences pale in comparison to the A-10. The A-10 has much more competition than the Big South or MVC could ever dream about

There's some projection with Marshall as well, especially in terms of recruiting.

I don't really get how someone can say a guy that has done nothing but win consistently everywhere he's been isn't a clear upgrade over a guy that has never won consistently anywhere.  Marshall is an upgrade over Crean, how much I'm not sold on but he is absolutely an upgrade.

I'd have Bennett over Marshall because he's currently in a major conference so may be less projection involved.

Ive got them as 3a/3b but to be honest ill be thrilled with even Archie.

There even been some rumblings about the Shockers leaving the MVC for greener pastures.  Still, don't want Marshall.  Beating a dead horse for me at this point.

No thank you to Alford. Hope he isn't even in Glass' top 10. Everything else looks good.

Remove Alford and put Marshall in his spot, with Collins/holtman tied for 7th and that's my list.

Is there a reason none of y'all like Alford? The man is one of the best players to come out of IU and he has solid track records at both schools he's been at to my knowledge

He is at UCLA shouldn't be hard to recruit when you can watch a game with a recruit showing Kevin Love or Russell Westbrook or almost 10 titles. Missed the tourney last year and covered up a rape at Iowa. It hasn't been glorious at all times for him. New Mexico was probably his best coaching job I will give him that but the conference also isn't full of power teams. He never became this recruiter till he had UCLA by his name.

I  posted my reasons in the Fire Tom Crean thread earlier today.  To me it's all about his personal character, or lack thereof, that he's exhibited over the years.

I don't know if he's been anywhere but Wichita state, but getting a non-power 5 team to the tournament that often is very impressive

Yes, Winthrop where they regularly went to the tournament also. He has won at tough places to win and can lead us to great heights. He's a winner.

So it seems as if we will probably end up with one of these two. For me it's a tough one. One day I like Miller better and the next day I like Marshall better. So many great facts and opinions that it leaves me confused. I would put Bennet slightly ahead of these two but I would take Sean over all of them not named Donovan or Stevens, if we are going after home run hires.
