Fire Fred Glass

The contract was outlandish and ignorant to many including myself. Just take a look at Roy Williams latest contract as a contrast. His latest inked him up until 2020 and was finalized in 2015. So you have a twice national championship coach, one of the winningest in the game; and he gets an additional 5 years. Now you have Crean who hadn't even taken us to a final four get 10 years? That is insane and totally out of line even compared to one of the best in the game. This falls on Glass, and Creans buyout has kept him from making a move that should have been done three years earlier. Also, I believe it's short sighted to say he is responsible for Cook Hall or the Assembly Hall renovations. They would have happened without him. Show me any coach in college basketball with a contract like Creans; especially on with a little over .500 win percentage. This is Glass's baby thru and thru and he needs to fall on his sword for signing off on it.

Roy got only that much due to his age. We will have to probably agree to disagree as the view you are taking is beyond short sighted considering the situation, the job of the AD, and the current state of IU when it was given to him. Either way it's all good. Glass job is not on the line so it's a moot point and kind shows he takes care of far more than the men's basketball team. As for the other statement there is no good comparison to what Crean came into. So nobody could honestly give you any names. The large buyouts for leaving are relatively new and mostly were used in NCAAF until the last 15 years. Times have changed. The game has changed.

I'm perfectly fine with us dumping more money into the football program. If we can get to where we consistently win 7-8 games a year that'd be great. It's when you get to the other sports that I'm not really on board. If Glass can get the basketball and football programs to where they need to be then I'm fine with him moving on to the other sports. Until then he needs to focus on basketball and football, imo. Those are the important ones.

You are judged by your flagship programs and Glass has failed miserably.

As an AD, that is not even half of it. If that was what they are judged on Fred Glass would have the easiest job in the world. Do you think if Crean or any coach won, but donor dollars quit coming in Glass would still have a job? Now flip that. If our coach loses, but record money keeps coming in, what do you suppose will happen. As long as Glass appeases the donors, graduates have minimal issues in office, and kids graduate he will have a job. You are honestly looking at this from a fan angle and not the business it truly is. You want Glass gone? Tell donors to quit giving money or hope for a scandal. Crean losing won't change a thing unless the donors quit paying.

Completely agree. Football is where we have the most potential for more money. I think with a new basketball coach we could get more money. Unfortunately that is one area Crean has always been good at.

Sure we can agree to disagree; we are finally on the same page as it comes to Crean so we've made a lot of progress. This is Glass' baby and the great rebuild Crean has done only counts when you hang real banners.

All we wanted was to be Kentucky, kansas, duke. Great at basketball first and foremost and if there's success elsewhere then that's a plus. Glass turned us into Iowa or Minnesota. Turning the school into being "meh" in all sports, instead of just bad. Going 6-6 twice just to lose in both bowl games. Going to College world series only to have the coach leave and currently going back to the mediocre team they were before? Women's basketball going from last to 2 places up from last. This is all somehow preferable to the basketball team, the one thing we take pride in the most, gets turned into a shell of itself?

$$$$ but sometimes results get in the way. Yeah we have a nice Assembly Hall we get to lose to Mich in and cut down nets after losing. Hang sweet 16 banners and hope for 7 win football seasons. I guess I'm jaded as we hung a real banner while winning the Big 10 in football when I was in school. Very sad though that Glass also was a student for one of those other banners.

About the extension, if it had never happened when it did, what kind of deal do you think Crean would have received following the 2012-13 season? Yes, the Syracuse loss stung, but he did win the conference that year and have the team in the top 3 for most of the season.

As ridiculous as the extension was, I think he would have got one regardless after that season, and we may have been in a worse place than we are now. Imagine if the buyout was $7 million right now?

Actually a great point here. Haven't thought of it that way before.

I'm not ready to fire Glass, but I am worried  he will defend Tom due to injuries and winning the Big twice now. I still feel Crean gets another season no matter how much we lose now.

And yes the 10 year extention was unbelievable and is a cause for concern for his judgement moving forward .

He'd better not.  After the way he acted after wetting the bed against Michigan today he shouldn't even finish the season, but I know he will.

Was it a 10 year extension? I thought he signed in 2012 through 2020? I don't think the extension was that big of a deal. I believe there are/were boosters that would pay that. I don't want Glass gone but do think he needs to find the right replacement. If the right hire is made I think we'll all go back to thinking highly of Glass.

Fred Glass is not a stupid man and he will not let CTC drag him under the bus.

How common is it for an AD to miss a home basketball game? I'm sure there's an explanation for Glass not being there yesterday but I was wondering if hes usually always there.

Not in the building at all? I know he's usually courtside but he may have been running impromptu meetings in the new club area out of camera view.

No idea. I just saw in the Fire Crean thread "Per Dakich, Glass was not at the game yesterday."

Here's the timeline of Crean's entire contract while at IU:

-Crean was initially given an 8 year deal, through 2016.

-After a few months on the job, he went to Greenspan and bitched that it was worse than he thought, so he demanded an extension. 2 more years were added, taking it through 2018. I vividly remember the widespread freak outs on our old scout site because people feared this meant a multi-year postseason ban was coming (the NCAA announced our probation in November that year).

-November 2012, right before our season opener, Glass announces a 2 year extension, taking the contract through 2020.

Now we play the waiting game...
