I still think 3 or so of the bottom of the barrel games need to be moved up to "near sure win" games.

Liberty, Miss Valley State and SIUE should be upgraded to Indiana State type teams.  There is a reason we won the Big Ten and got a 5 seed last year.  The team is not motivated by these games and it hurts us with the committee.

The loss to two sub 100 teams in Maui hurt a great deal in seeding as well. If we had our top end games (KU, UNC, UL, Butler), switched 5 of the 250+ games to 100-200, and a few of the 300+ games to 200-250 games we would have a very good OOC SOS and be positioned nicely for a top 4 seed.

The upsides I see is that Crean gets more time to rest starters for the big ten season. As well as try out lineups and give young players more PT.

I also understand a cupcake at finals time so the boys can concentrate on the book work. Unlike teams like UK--we want our players to be real student-athletes!

A lot of that was do to us losing all our quality non conference games last year as well as dropping the ball in the BTT.

Three guys from Huntington Prep were at the game along with another player. Couldn't tell who he was but some people around me thought it might have been Robert Phinisee. Can't confirm that though.

Anybody got any more news on this? We need to pull a recruiting rabbit out of the hat if you know what I mean!

Losing in the first round of the Maui Invite hurt us two fold. An L against a bad team and giving us an 200+ opponent in St. John's as opposed to a top 100 Vandy.

Yes, I agree. Last year Hawaii in particular was a RPI disaster.

That being said, I still think we should not be playing 300+ teams.  Not looking for a big overhaul but moving three 300 type teams to 100-150 teams would be good for our RPI, team and fans.

The thing is he does not rest the top guys. Priller got in with what 2 mins to go? He will run with the top 7-8 guys up to about 2 -3 minutes to go then maybe take them out. Too many games we are up 25+ with under 5 to go and all the starters can be still out there.

The reason we got a 5 seed is because we lost to unlv and wake forest in Maui. Those 2 teams got worse and both ended up with a rpi in the high 130's. you are not going to get a high seed with multiple +100 rpi losses

Our starters have averaged about 24 minutes these last 2 games. That's enough to keep them sharp without wearing them down

It is the pointless playing of them late in blowouts when they are bored and not playing sharp as it is that is the thing that bugs me. If we play the cupcakes let the subs get more time

You could do it without leaving the state. Ball State, Evansville, Indiana State, Fort Wayne, IUPUI, Toledo, etc.

I think Ken is Wrong.

Many of our kids are young and still finding chemistry. They can handle 25 min a game.

It's the 2-3 hour practices that worry me more.

Crean has admitted to handling practice times better recently, particularly last year.

Precisely.  Crean only gets a certain amount of time per week with the players per NCAA rules, so he might as well use games as practice time if he can.

The 2nd half of some of these games are essentially free 20-minute practices.
