Thing is we’re likely to see multiple different lineups in multiple games and I’d be surprised if we didn’t see the two together, situationally, at some point — Woodson has shown over many years that he is flexible and will run the team and sets needed as a game can dictate - and that will be refreshing.

From a pure player development perspective, you'd want TJD developing range more than Durr, if I understand Woodson's system correctly. In the 41, there are lots of options for the 5 or "in". And TJD really wouldn't be a true post guy in a situation where Durr was the 5. To add, yes we've seen it, but it's been in an Archie system.

Sounds like very balanced due to mediocrity lol. Not sure if that's good or bad. If they didn't shoot many 3s, that would lead me to believe teams could crowd low, making it harder on Durr. And the low scoring average of their players tells me no one drew attention. Overall, even more mystery lol. I got a giggle on the "slow, but faster than we were" comment lol. Yup, for sure we'll see different lineups. My gut tells me we might see TJD play a decent amount of off-4 if Durr has some power-move in him. Many versions of the 41 for the 5, but I can see a situation where we use Durr as a simplified non-ball side, or ball-side 5, and have TJD causing havoc on the other side. Again, that assumes Durr can develop a power move presence. I think I need to watch more tape on Durr.

I’m not. Statistically they were 247th in tempo (slow, but faster than we were). Didn’t shot a ton of threes and weren’t good at it. Offense was very balanced....player leading in shots averaged 10 per game. Leading scorer and only double figure scorer averaged 12 1/2 but five more players averaged over 8 per game.

    Next Year’s Roster

Agreed. A couple of holes in the roster but i think the staff got the right players to eventually fill those gaps, which is something we haven't had in awhile. Our frontcourt looks way better (six guys over 6'6") and our backcourt looks absolutely stacked (Xavier, Lander, Bates, Parker, Phinisee & Galloway). As long as the shooting improves, this team could be very potent. Looks like a fun group (haven't seen a "fun" looking team since Crean). I also think the distractions are gone and this is a group that's going to work (Lots of tough players i.e. Phinisee, Xavier, Galloway, Race, Bates, etc). First time in awhile i can say i'm excited about the team, or the program for that matter.

Yeah, but someone doing their job should never, ever miss that call. Our players should get a fair shake regardless of how they're playing. Have no idea how this inning could have ended up if it weren't for that call. Could have been a 5 run inning who knows. Do your job as an umpire, Jeremy Houston had perfected his job.

I don't think CMW is a 2 post guy from what I read and the 1 in 4 out stuff I watched/read. We will consistently have 4 scoring threats on the perimeter and one guy moving around in the lane as the plays unfold. The lane needs to stay open so plays can develop and the motion offense can work properly. 2 guys in the post would ruin that.

If he and TJD are going to play together.. he needs to be developing his range. You simply cannot play two posts, consistently. We've seen that song and dance.

Standout 2023 La Lumiere (IN) point guard prospect Jeremy Fears is planning a June visit to Indiana. Additional info is behind the Rivals paywall and I'm not a subscriber. From April 30: Jeremy Fears is currently a 4-star recruit and ranked No. 23 nationally by 247Sports. That service lists him as the No. 7 point guard in the class. Even though he's a '23, he's playing 'up' with the Bradley Beal AAU team on the EYBL circuit so hopefully when the EYBL circuit starts we'll be able to get some good stats on him. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-class-of-2023-names-to-know-point-guard-jeremy-fears/?fbclid=IwAR3Gj35fLmDmEG52S0zWeNhWqAl6PDWMZ6WHJxahGh8LSXRoYTLfy6WSw8A From April 29: Travis Branham of 247Sports on PG Jeremy Fears - Fears hasn't spent much time talking to college coaches given he is a 2023 prospect but his father told 247Sports that Indiana is highly interest and is also receiving interest from Auburn, Michigan, Florida State and UCLA. https://247sports.com/Article/Jeremy-Fears-recruitment-basketball-prospect-2023-Indiana-Auburn-Michigan-Florida-State-UCLA-164798208/

    Corruption in College Basketball

Haven’t read through everything so sorry if already mentioned. I was listening to a sports podcast this morning and they were discussing how Will Wade/LSU keep staying ahead and nothing is happening to them. Evidently, the AD at LSU is the brother-in-law to Mark Emmett the head of the NCAA.

Interesting note....Durr missed three games last year against Memphis, Houston, and Central Florida. In those games, they lost to Memphis by 21, Houston by 46, and Central Florida by 16. In the game he played against Memphis, they lost by 1; in the game he played against Houston, they lost by 17. In the game he played against Central Florida, they won by 7. So they were an average -27.7 in the three games he didn't play; against those same opponents, they were -3.7 when he did play. Obviously a small sample space, but that is a HUGE difference to simply be written off.

Here’s a game of Durr’s vs UC from Dec. There’s more to him than I expected. Runs well and hard. Good lateral movement. Hedges and recovers on the pick and roll more easily than Brunk could dream of. Plays physically and with energy. Good hands. Should be a solid finisher off penetration. The stoke plays If Durr is a 15 min a game rotational big for you, you are way better off than most teams. That kid can help. Aside: the announcers mention several times about the killer job John Brannen was doing at UC. They called it. He damn near killed that program

It is the plan, and you might have to sell off some serious assets to afford it lol. A *LOT* of optimism + a year of being cooped up + an already expensive ticket when we suck = sorry kids Christmas is cancelled, daddy wants to see IU play *squints* Bemidji State on a Wednesday in November.

I maybe completely wrong on this but with the addition of a true 7' post player, I don't see TJD playing the 5 as much anymore. Durr's career definitely doesn't jump out of the stat sheets but he was a starter against some tough competition. With all of the comments from the new staff and TJD, Woody wants to help TJD get to the next level. IMO, if TJD wants any sort of career in the NBA, it is not going to be a the 5. I could see TJD at the 4 more this season with Durr at the 5 and Logan backing Durr up, if he is ready or TJD/Race moving to the 5 when Durr is off the floor. Again, I don't know if Durr is ready to start or not, just fitting pieces of the puzzle together. And I too hope to never see a "small" ball at center again.

It's fun for us to speculate about where guys will play and what their role will be. I really think that CMW is going to push players out of their comfort zone and expand what they do. I expect to see a lot of growth take place as the year goes on. After a summer and fall of work, Durr may surprise us. He may also allow TJD to spend more time out of the paint to show off his expanded game. AND, if CMW has anything to say about it, TJD will have an expanded game.

I haven’t really followed recruiting much since the early Crean years, but this kid seems like a huge pull for Woodson and possibly the guy that helps round out an increasingly solid rotation next year.
