Ticket sales. They're losing fan support and have been for almost two years now. Fans have become apathetic because they know Pagano stinks and the team has little upside. Ruling Luck out for the season before the first game results in even more apathy and empty seats.

If you ask me, this has all been calculated. They knew Luck wasn't playing any time soon, but Irsay says there's a chance he could play in the opener just so people don't abandon ship before the first game. They take him off the PUP list a whole 30 minutes before the deadline so they can sell the hope he'll play before the sixth game, or at the very least be allowed to practice with the team. Then, to avoid making themselves look totally incompetent, they slip him into a few practices before six weeks has elapsed. Now, with the sixth game behind us, he just happens to have a setback and won't practice again for awhile.

Even if you read his statements from yesterday, they are very subjective. Things like he'll be back "soon", and he was doing "good", and he'll start where he left off, are all things that are relative and really mean nothing.

I agree with you. They have had a pretty good idea about this for quite a while, but as soon as you say Luck is out for the year, the apathy dramatically increases and ticket sales go with it.

I don't blame them at all for doing this, and I certainly don't care if people feel betrayed because the Colts may not have been 100% honest. Pagano needed to be gone two years ago, the Colts need Luck at his healthiest and best, and they desperately need the talent higher picks could provide because Grigson was so dreadful at his job.

Pagano and Grigson were gonna be gone after the 2015 season. For some reason, Irsay believed that crap about them being able to work it out. Those guys have ruined Andrew

I still remember how angry I was when he extended both of them. Does anyone else remember how ****ing stupid that day was? First it was Pagano was getting fired, then Grigson was gone, then there was an unfixable chasm between the two of them, then Irsay gets drugged up and rants for hours about some guy deserving a national monument next to the Lincoln Memorial, then he would make a decision the next day, then at 10 p.m. calls a press conference and it's "You get an extension! You get an extension! Everyone gets an extension!"

I've never been able to figure out what it is about Indiana that causes sports teams to hold onto bad coaches for so long.

And to fire good ones as scapegoats. I'm looking at you Pacers

I agree completely. Irsay is a joke.

I disagree with those that blame Luck's situation on them though. Luck has his own accountability. Maybe it's not his fault even that his body hasn't responded as expected. Who knows why it's taken this long. That's the question

Oh believe me. I'm not absolving Andrew of blame. His throws need to be better, needs to make smarter decisions and has to start fast. Too many times the Colts got behind right from the jump

And to make that night worse, Pacers lost to the Heat in OT. That was a bad night

What would it take for Pagano to be fired mid season? He should be gone tonight.

He's not getting fired midseason. Irsay has never done that and he won't do it to someone he likes as much as Pagano.

Irsay is a joke too. I wish we had a competent owner.

Hey, at least we're only 1 game out of...whoops.

Oh well, at least Luck is practicing and will soon...oh wait.

No worries, we have a coach with a track record of getting teams back on track and getting guys to play their best...never mind.

I understand fans not having it in them to root for their team to lose, but it's a necessary evil at this point. I honestly don't know why anyone would be hoping for victories.

You are absolutely right, and that is everything that's been wrong with this organization since Polian lost his his fastball. Instead of a consistent team building philosophy and culture of results and dispassionate decision making , Irsay has allowed this thing to be run like some mom and pop shop. He made decisions for years with his heart and no long term plan of any kind. Maybe Ballard is the right guy to change it. I think he is. But as long as Irsay allows  Pagano to hang around like Fredo Corleone learning the freaking casino business, this franchise will continue it's decline to league afterthought.

Oh, and what's being done to Luck's career is criminal.

I've mentioned it before, but this twitter account is really funny to follow with Capt. Andrew's letters to his mother.

Capt. Andrew Luck‏ @CaptAndrewLuck

Dearest mother — As you’ll read through the news service, Cpl. Hilton cast aspersions on the unit front line. Disheartening. — Andrew
