OliviaPope40 Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 An estimated 100 million people worldwide watched or listened to the verdict's announcement. Long-distance telephone call volume declined by 58 percent, and trading volume on the New York Stock Exchange decreased by 41 percent. Water usage decreased as people avoided using bathrooms. So much work stopped that the verdict cost an estimated $480 million in lost productivity. Here's the one part of that trial I find the most interesting. I thought that the American Crime Story on this was okay but not great but the ESPN documentary is the best one of the bunch. bigrod 1 Quote

LamarCheeks Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 I had forgotten this. SNL did so much on OJ through the years (mostly Norm with Weekend Update) that this sorta got lost in the shuffle. Josh Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 I was a sophomore at IU when it was announced that there would be a verdict in the trial. Ironically they announced the time would be during a Criminal Justice class. We all went to the class and begged the professor to let us go home to watch it. We insisted that this was criminal justice history so he had to let us go home! He reluctantly agreed. At the time there were no tvs in the classrooms and no computers/cell phones. Going home to watch on TV was the only way to see. Watching the not guilty verdict come back while being a criminal justice major impacted my life. At that moment I knew I didn't want any part of that field for my life. Rot in hell OJ johnsoniu, thebigweave and IH8PU 3 Quote
LamarCheeks Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 ESPN takes a deep dive into why Bill Belichick is unemployed this offseason. After interviewing with the Falcons, who showed the most interest, their hiring people compared notes -- he wasn't in their top 3. Arthur Blank wasn't necessarily looking for warm and fuzzy -- but he definitely didn't want cold and distant, and that's Belichick. Pretty interesting reading. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39955777/how-patriots-legend-bill-belichick-end-nfl-job Quote
LamarCheeks Posted April 19, 2024 Posted April 19, 2024 Former Bears and Colts GM Bill Tobin dies at 83. Also was an exec with the Lions and later, a Bengals scout. Gave us one of the greatest sound bites in NFL history. 'WHO IN THE HELL IS MEL KIPER?" Josh 1 Quote
Demo Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 7 of the Jets’ 1st 10 games are prime time plus a London game. I sort of appreciate the League’s consideration in ensuring that I don’t have to stay up late on Sunday and Monday nights because other than their Colts’ game there is no universe in which I’m watching the Jets. lillurk and CSP 2 Quote

I don’t care about the actual result, but my spidey senses tend to tingle when a judge tells a jury to F itself, particularly when doing so in favor of corporate interests. CSP 1 Quote

TheWatShot Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 So, I pay little to no attention to preseason games nor do I put any stock in them, but I couldn't help but notice Richardson didn't play last night. Tell me he's not injured already? Quote

It looks so funny that Mahomes plays in all pre season games but the Colts don't think their starters need the reps before the season begins. J34 1 Quote

They aren't going live/joint practice 3 times in a week. We go to camp... live practice 3 or 4 times over 3 days... we get 2.5 games worth of reps. You're way underestimating how much they do in joint practice. And that's great the Chiefs repped their starters, if not they wouldn't have gotten work at all against another team this week. The Colts starters got, in my best guesstimation, 120+ more reps against another NFL team this week than the Chiefs starters did. Scotty R, thebigweave and mamasa 2 1 Quote

mamasa Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I've heard a lot of rumblings from talking heads that there will be no preseason as soon as next season. No idea how credible it is, but since they've already shortened the season and gotten rid of overtime, they're really nothing more than another combined practice Quote

They are money makers and still a fair amount of people go to these games. I honestly think 2 preseason games would be fine. If you are going to joint practice for at least 2 opponents every year (I am not sure if the Colts will do a 3rd)...I agree, not really a need for the preseason games. mamasa 1 Quote
