A Texas court scheduled Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby's trial against the NCAA for Feb. 8, 2027, two weeks after the College Football Playoff National Championship is scheduled to be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The 99th District Court in Lubbock County, Texas, where Texas Tech is located, scheduled the trial Monday, the same day a judge granted Sorsby a temporary injunction that might clear him to play for the Red Raiders in 2026 even after the NCAA declared him ineligible for wagering on college sports.

The NCAA has already appealed Judge Ken Curry's ruling to the Court of Appeals for the Seventh District of Texas in Amarillo.

Each of the four justices in the Seventh District -- Chief Justice Judy Parker and Lawrence Doss, Alex Yarbrough and Laura Pratt -- are graduates of the Texas Tech School of Law, according to their online bios.

Yeah, good luck with any kind of ruling/decision other than "Sorsby plays"... as ridiculous as that is, clearly the fix is in.

Texas attorney general Ken Paxton sent a letter to Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark and board of directors chairman Douglas Girod on Thursday, notifying the league that it would be exposed to "substantial liability" if it takes action against Texas Tech for playing quarterback Brendan Sorsby.

The Big 12 Conference's presidents met Thursday to discuss whether the league can invoke Bylaw 3.6 to sanction the Red Raiders if they decide to play Sorsby, who was declared ineligible by the NCAA for wagering on college sports. Texas Judge Ken Curry granted Sorsby a temporary injunction to play for the Red Raiders on Monday. The NCAA plans to appeal the ruling.

"We are aware that the Big 12 is considering invoking Bylaw 3.6 of the Big 12's Bylaws to sanction Texas Tech for respecting the Order and continuing its support of Mr. Sorsby as a student-athlete," Paxton wrote in the letter. "This letter serves to notify the Big 12 that any such action would be unlawful and would expose the Conference to substantial liability."

Paxton is looking to improve his reputation in the state seeing he is supposedly running behind in the polls for US Senate.  I wouldn't doubt this is more political than actually wanting Sorsby to play next year.

Paxton, who got donations from TTU booster, intervening in a dispute involving Texas Tech is the least shocking thing ever. He's as corrupt as they get.

Paxton being a scumballbag is not a hot take, but to state that it’s compelling that a Republican billionaire giving $30k of campaign cash to a home-state Republican senatorial candidate is off point. Same goes for billionaire Democrat donors.
 

$30k is a chump change contribution from a guy like Campbell. Look up how much Campbell has given to other politicians- exponentially larger numbers.

Do we have any idea what kind of timeline this might have? I know Jay Bilas has been adamant that it will be over-turned and Sorsby never plays.

Paxton is the definition of a scumballbag.  When the defense lawyer who defended you in the Texas Senate for impeachment endorses the Democrat in Texas, yeah, you might be dirty.  I wonder how much of the Sorsby thing will backfire on TT even more after he is saying how they will be violating Texas law?
