McSwain recruitment reminds me of Hanners in a way. I remember that recruiting video of Hanner jumping a mile high to touch that ball. McSwain---this photo. Hoping different ending.

One has nothing to do with the other. Freddie is not Hanner...AT LEAST I HOPE NOT!

I think their skills and potential are very comparable, the hope is Freddie actually wants to get better, and puts the time to learn the basics and polish his game. Hanner clearly didn't care enough to do that.

I am excited ... He dunks with authority and rebounds at a high level! His shot doesn't look bad, I am surprised his free throw percentage is so low. Crean has landed another diamond, and with proper weight training, I see his development soaring!

Are you saying "it just isn't" at IU or in college basketball? There was a good article/video that came out a bit ago about an ex assistant that lifted the curtain on college basketball and it's happenings in regards to coaching/recruiting etc. I'm not basing my stance on that article but it is additional validation. In a nutshell, he said that if there was a player on the team that was not valuable and they had another recruit that they did value but needed that scholarship spot, they would go to all lengths to make sure the kid transferred. Step one was subtle, telling the kid that they didn't see him contributing and that they might find more time elsewhere. If that didn't work then they would tell them they suggest that he transfer. If that didn't work they would begin to ostracize the kid, etc etc. it's not just one simple conversation where everything goes back to normal or is hunky dory after the conversation whether they stay or go.

And for another poster that said something to the effect of it happening all over te bigten and NCAA, that is true but I and a few other people crunched the numbers at one point and Crean was #1 in the bigten over a several year period. He's earned it and I can see why high school coaches are wary.

Huh? That is your argument? That grown men who are also college basketball coaches would make kids transfer because they were helping their team win? I've heard a lot, but this may take the cake. Did you read what I said?

I want to point out this is what I said....

" It isn't like a 50 year old man (Tom Crean) is going to hold a grudge against a 19 year old "kid" (Tim Priller) if he has earned minutes and will help the team. It just isn't. "

And your original point was about Crean earning the reputation. Now you're citing some unknown assistant from another program and arguing this is an issue that happens...not at IU?

What would you really want to change about the transfers? Who'd you really want to keep? Nick Williams?

There have been several. The point is, every coach makes some mistakes in recruitment and not every player pans out, but there are things one can do to mitigate it. Eliminate recruiting with a shotgun approach, stop offering players you have only seen once or twice and in some cases only in practice, cutting back on the over sign etc would be a start. Coaches are holding him accountable for his missteps and I don't blame them.

I love IU and can admit I saw more adjustment and improvement from Crean this season than any other, but he has his faults and transfers are one of them, more so than most.

I hope this works out well for our current players and Freddie

I guess I just don't understand what you were saying there then. No player wants to stay on a team where a coach has made things uncomfortable for you and made plans without you or in your place. Your as good as dead if you are suggested to leave and you don't. "Grudge" or whatever you call it, your viewed and treated as one that stood in the way of progress/coaches agenda

Welcome to the Hoosiers Freddie!

I know this means Troy is probably gone----but I like this pick-up---helps balance the classes and gives us another mature player up front.

How's the air up there????

The slam dunk contest at Hysteria just got more competitive!

I think the train of thought is......

If playing time isn't in your future due to skill level... And you want playing time versus bench mob....The staff will try to find you a new situation where you can find playing time...

Both sides can be seen as winners. Team dumps kid lacking the skills to benefit the team. Kid benefits from moving to a team where playing time can be increased.

Kyle Wiltjer is a great example, although I think that was more of a Luke Fischer situation and not a skill issue. Both sides benefitted.

Hollowell.. Both sides benefit.

Jurkin. Same

List can go on and on.

See Freddie. See Freddie Dunk. Dunk Freddie, DUNK!

Dude can leap and I agree his shot doesn't look too bad, a little slow on the release, but if he can hit over 30% from 3, rebound and occasionally, yes, dunk, I think he'll do just fine. A lot of possibilities at the 3-4 spots.

What?

It's been laid out there pretty clearly. I'm not sure what you aren't understanding or believing here as coaches have laid it out there for you and it hasn't sunk in so I think I am wasting my time. You've heard it from coaches and I've heard it from a player. It's a real problem that Could be minimized
