On the plus side, he has a lower bar to reach to be game-ready then.

Collin Hartman (wrist), Robert Johnson (ankle) and Juwan Morgan (shoulder) will have surgery in the next couple weeks, Tom Crean says. #iubb

Throw JBJ in there and it really shows how banged up we were towards the end of the season.

Surgery!? That tells me everything about Collin and Juwan but I don't quite understand how Rojo was iffy, practicing, and requires surgery unless high ankle sprain was not even close to the actual diagnosis or he had some serious laxity.

Bone chips that have to be cleaned out?

Wow, I think that says a lot about the toughness of these players. I'm sure they're all minor surgeries but they were all willing to go out and fight regardless. Best of luck on the surgery and recovery.

Crean said on jmv Hartman played with a fractured wrist and that Morgan's surgery will keep him out the longest of the 3

Good thought. That could definitely not hurt too much to practice but be dangerous enough not to play. And while usually you'd expect them to just allow reabsorption, that would slow his return to practice.

If he had some avulsion they would still call it a sprain too.

For the benefit of many of us who skipped Latin:  In medicine, an avulsion is an injury in which a body structure is forcibly detached from its normal point of insertion by either trauma or surgery (from the Latin avellere, meaning "to tear off").

In diagnostic terms it is usually used when a mechanism of injury which would otherwise cause a sprain tears the bone instead of the ligament. Common in children because they have very strong ligaments and weak bones relative to adults.

The high ankle is a very common spot for an avulsion fracture because the syndesmosis ligament is stupid strong.

Instability preventing proper alignment and causing some diastasis (muscular separation) would be the other reason you'd go in for surgery. If RoJo has been playing with the injury all year then this is likely as an avulsion would have reabsorbed a lot of the bone by now and smoothed the edges.

My dad had the same thing Morgan is going to have. It's a major pain, long recovery.

I wonder if the McSwain recruitment, which many including me, think is a backup plan for Troy leaving, might actually be a backup plan for Morgan taking a medical redshirt. That means someone would have to go and The obvious candidate goes without saying. Of course this whole theory is based on what 41 said about a long painful recovery. If it is not bad enough to keep it out that long, this theory is a whole lot of nothing.

Someone has to go already right? I don't know where we find another scholarship after unless one of the NBA potentials takes the leap.
