(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Recommended Posts

Rightfully so, but I'm guessing we'll see a heavy dose of Oladipo & Gordon All-Star weekend coverage on IU's social media accounts to further boost the brand.

I think this might be a positive for IU. When you look at the visit, it seems likes Drew is doing everything he possibly can to get Romeo. Kinda like panic mode?? He’s bringing in former G league players from the program and everyone he possibly can. Doesn’t seem like drew has this one wrapped up like most think. The only thing I’m sort of worried about is him being with Garland.

Of course it’s panic mode. It’s been panic mode ever since Archie took over

If Romeo wants the best shot at a championship he'll go to Kansas. If he wants to be close to home while building up his brand and still competing in the tournament he'll come to IU. If they're mostly just looking to cash in (not saying they are) he'll go to Vandy. That's how I see it at least. I'm feeling good about our chances but a lot can happen between now and April.

I’ve always thought the Langford’s insistence on seeing how the coaches interact with their players and how they coach in game was a huge factor. Archie has proven how well he can coach and how much he can get out of his players when they buy in to his system this year.

We lost two NBA draft picks, another player to the G league coming in to the year, and then lost a starting player from this years team and we are 7th in the B1G. Drew lost one player to the NBA and another to graduation, while losing MFD to injury a few weeks ago and are 12th in the SEC.

It sure seems like there is a coach that’s separating himself from the other one

The only thing that really makes sense for RoMeO is IU no matter how anyone wants to spin it, IMO.  I've heard so much about how RoMeO and his family is treating this selection as a business decision.  If this really is a business decision, he will be going to IU.  Ultimately, it is his (& family) call of course then the rest will be "history" but come on he is already a legend in Indiana and he would be going to another school and starting over basically.  Really not much to think about from a business perspective.

Like the previous two posts, I feel that this visit is intended to (and probably will) help the Langfords get critical information about the two coaches and programs.  Seeing how the coaches handle and instruct the players seems to be high on the list of priorities according to Tim Langford - Romeo and family have had much more opportunity to interact and observe Archie.  Now it's time for Drew to show what he's got.  From a coaching (not recruiting or selling) standpoint I really like our chances.  We'd certainly hold a significant advantage in the area of facilities and fan support.  I'd say Romeo would probably get more exposure at IU as well.  I believe Mr. Langford and the NA coach are pretty high on Archie as a coach.

If Romeo is strongly influenced by Garland, promises from Drew, or hoopla surrounding marginal NBA alums, then we may not be his choice.  That said, from everything we've heard, I think the decision will be made based on coaching and development.  Again, I feel good about our chances if that is the criteria.

Just my personal opinion, but I watched a live stream on instagram from Darius yesterday, and he so god damn obnoxious. Just seemed kind of immature to me, and I have gotten that vibe from him a few times, just watching how he carries himself it makes it pretty obvious. Romeo seems much more mature and I don't think they're as close of friends as Darius thinks they are...

Yes! By the way...have you ever seen Rob Phinsee interviewed?

I'm hoping that IU gets a roster full of players that want to play with Rob. And, I'm hoping that Romeo sees that in Rob, and is one of them.

Hopefully they get a full roster of guys like Rob! Seems like a real professional!

Agreed because the used car salesman tactics will be out in full force. I mean they can't talk about the on court failures.

The same pitch as any other program: "YOU are the missing piece to put us over the top!"

Not much different then what he's hearing from IU or KU, really.   Only difference is what that means relative to each team: Vandy= +.500 record, IU= Compete for B1G title and deep tourney run, KU= Natl Championship. Everyone is telling him they will feature him, develop him and he'll be a legend even after he leaves. We know that is only true for ONE of the three, though don't we?

True but vandy can't pitch anything other than you'll put us over the top. No facilities, history, rabid fans, basketball school, etc. The pitch is a short one

I really think we could be a top 5 team by the end of next year with Romeo, the ceiling for that team is a final four/national championship run.

Yep. Romeo is the difference. Next year’s team would reach its full potential with him

Darius rubs a lot of people the wrong way on the outside, but those close to him couldn't say nicer things about him. Kid needs to change that asap because he wants to be an NBA player and build his brand. What teenager is ready for that at his age besides LeBron though? With that said he fooled me. I truly thought he was a great kid who never talked close to the way he does. I didn't think he was a Rob Phinisee type but maybe a Tre Jones type. Negative. We're lucky with Rob. He's an awesome kid and we couldn't of gotten a better pg for the future.

I don’t know if Archie needs to adjust his recruiting pitch or what but we should not be fighting and scrapping with Vanderbilt and UCLA for kids in our backyard. I guess we are paying for the sins of our past.

It is just the way it is. He doesn't live that far from Nashville so it is not that crazy. It may never be the way it was in the past the world has changed greatly since the tgen
