biteoftheapple Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 As for Huggy, his health is a major concern. Not to mention his personal problems he has had. I have heard it stated he is year to year for his health conditions at this point. Quote
Uwe Robb Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 As for Huggy, his health is a major concern. Not to mention his personal problems he has had. I have heard it stated he is year to year for his health conditions at this point. I think I remember hearing that during a game earlier in the year. Also looking at his bio didn't realize he coached that long @ Cincy. 1989-2005. I remember the Melvin Levitt and Kenyon Martin teams they were crazy good, but they shot a lot of 3's so they would go cold and be an early exit in tourney every year. Killed my brackets when I was younger. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Sorry I keep bombarding the boards with KenPom stats, but here are some more. The following list of coaches and the amount of season they have had their teams in the top 50 Adjusted Offense and the top 50 Adjusted Defense. The list is from 2002 - 2015 Not a lot of young talent on the list but enjoy!! Bill Self - 14 (13 Kansas, 1 Illinois) Cal - 12 (5 UK, 7 Memphis) Coach K - 11 Izzo - 10 J Dixon - 9 Boeheim - 9 Bo Ryan - 9 Roy Williams - 9 Billy D - 8 Pitino - 8 Huggins - 8 (5 WVa, 3 Cincy) Matta - 7 Barnes - 6 J Wright - 6 S Miller - 5 (3 AZ, 2 Xavier) J Thompson III - 5 M Few - 5 G Marshall - 5 Not a lot of young talent and several carrying way too much baggage, I.e., Calipari, Pitino, Boeheim, Williams, Huggins. JSHoosier Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I think Marshall is a better in game coach than Crean. I have my doubts he can recruit here or fulfill other areas required to be coach at IU. Those concerns would follow pretty well any coach that isn't Stevens or coming from a major program (ala Donovan before he left Florida). We didn't know if Crean could recruit at this level either. Marshall would undoubtedly have more resources here than he has at Wichita State though. Has he had problems with off court issues? Does he graduate players? I genuinely don't know because I don't follow WSU. Marshall isn't a homerun hire certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but I do think he'd be an upgrade. mdn82 1 Quote

Probably hard for a young coach to be on this list since the minimum number of years (5) exceeds most of the young guys tenure. Get much past 5 years and your not too young anymore. Good list though mdn82 1 Quote

biteoftheapple Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Robb, another thing about Enfield is the kids love the guy! He's a fun coach and his wife is HOT!!! lol USC's gotta be loving life now with him. I do not know much about Enfelds resume, but his feud with Alford, him being considered here would madden Steve. 8bucks and Napleshoosier 2 Quote

In game I would be surprised to hear complaints. I think a few years ago his name was hotter and it would have been easier. Quote

What grudge do IU fans hold? Are you referring to Bob knights grudge against IU? Obviously missing something in regards to this fanbase and grudges. Not being a smartass, just don't get it Quote

PM me if need be, it wasn't directed at you and didn't mean to offend. Quote
8bucks Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 My plane got delayed so I googled some articles related to our search when we hired Crean. Related to young coaches, those many of us think do not have enough experience, I was surprised to find that Bennett only had two years experience at Washington we we talked to him last time. "Pros: After his father Purdue Person retired two seasons ago, the younger Bennett took over and in his first season led Washington State to its most wins in school history (tied it at 26), won AP Coach of the Year and Naismith College Coach of the Year. This all after WSU finished dead last in the Pac-10 a year before. This year, his team has the second-highest rated defense in the country at 56.1 points allowed per game and have advanced (so far) to the Sweet Sixteen — beating Winthrop and Notre Dame by a combined margin of 49 points. He’s young (38), he’s up and coming, he’s what IU could really use to jump start the program. He’s helped recruit the likes Devin Harris, Kirk Penney, Alando Tucker and Brian Butch while at Wisconsin. His father’s ties to Bob Knight might help reconnect a certain segment of the Indiana family too." "Cons: Too inexperienced? This is only Bennett’s second year at the helm of Washington State. Sure, he’s done a stellar job in his first two seasons, but do we need a larger sample size before we know he’s the real deal? Would it be a mistake to pull a trigger on a guy who’s still largely untested?"http://www.insidethehall.com/tag/tony-bennett/ He had two good years at Washington finishing 2 and 3rd in the PAC 10. Many on here think BS is the only guy. I think he is the best guy but some of the guys on this list could turn out to be like Bennett. Many will not. I can't wait to see what Fife does but that does not mean I would call him for the IU job. Napleshoosier, hoosierpap, ALASKA HOOSIER and 1 other 4 Quote
