IU vs MSU Post-Game Thread

Recommended Posts

Seemed like momentum swung when he pulled OG and one other one out around 8 something in the 1st. That after both of OG's highlights moves. I feel that move cost us.

OG went out on a positive note though so he has that going for him.  I understand there will be runs and momentum changes in college basketball but it seems like we can go from one end of the spectrum to the other, in both ways, in a hurry.

My first thought was "oh an extra rest before the under 8 to". Didn't see OG again until 3 something left in the half.

As much as TW and ROJO turnovers kill our momentum on the court. Crean's substitution RYTHYM is equally killing us off the court. OG had some great plays in the first half and Crean pulls him out. He's done it with other players whose getting the job done but he yanks them.
It doesn't make any sense to me.
Does anyone else see this disturbing trend or am I imagining it?

He does it on purpose for the young players especially the freshman. He wants to pull them out when they have done something good rather than when they have done something bad. This boosts their confidence. I'm not sure when/where Crean said it though.

Did he come up with that all on his own or did he learn it from Izzo?
Regardless, that "strategery" needs to be re-thunk IMO.

Had to watch the majority of this one last night on DVR (even though I could have skipped it) because the whole "valentine" deal.

Why are we going away from the things that make us successful?

1.) I believe it was started during the OSU game, we were running that little hand-off offensive set and teams had no answer for it. It completely baffled the switch and Troy was much more effective in this set because it made hime move to the basket. This type of offense did not allow him to catch and dribble the ball at the top of the key. The action was actually made on the block were little dribbling had to occur. THIS HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE!

2.) Yogi is tired. His shots aren't falling. IMO, he is not forcing things but his shots arent falling. Frustration and fatigue. He will get it back. Just be patient.

3.) Thomas Bryant has shown no defensive prowess. I don't know whether to blame the B1G officials or is this his mantra? Either way his defense stinks. Many times yesterday his defense looked like HMP which was horrible.

4.) You would have thought since the Michigan game that Crean would have figured out the effective timeout need. Instead, it's game on and see what kind of game we can play through adversity. We have shown on very few occassions that we can. AGAIN, WHY ARE WE GOING AWAY FROM THAT!

5.) O.G. - every game this kid plays I see improvement, defense, control, confidence, and desire. I would be throwing my investments dollars into this kid right now. He has no fear and a willingness to succeed. Pull the trigger coaches. He is a big part of our future.

6.) I am calling this right now. Max is my IU player of the year. Start laughing I can take it but I will stand by my word! How many games has he been stable in the block, hit big shots when we needed, and filled the bench role when necessary. Thank you for helping IU this year Max!

7.) This standing around the 3-point line offense is not going to cut it through the rest of the season. I am going back to point #1 the hand-off. You have 3 options in one post feed: Hand it off to the cutting wing, keep it and make a post move on your defender, or kick it out for an open three. This has got to create more scoring options than what we are seeing now. This half court set stinks right now. We are just fortunate that we have had a few threes drop. Other than that we are dead in the water as usual.

8.) What would it take to set a few screens to open up Nick and Colin? I am just old school, but I saw it in a couple of earlier threads and our offense stinks right now in the half court and has never been strong. The dribble drive to me has always been a risk oriented offense. Either it works or it doesn't. No in between. It's AAU/NBA ball. Not NCAA ball.

Come on IU, dig deep and make a push!!!!

I'm so jealous of watching other teams run a few sets of screens for their shooters. I saw a play from state where they set 4 off ball wrap screens.. in a row. If anything, it was wearing our players down which HAS to pay dividends later in the game. We won't set one screen. We just do the 3 man weave and the defense just backs up and jogs around saving energy.

I am glad that Colin and Z are now making a move towards the middle to get the defense to collapse a little. That's probably what the plan actually is. I'd like to give Crean more credit than him just telling our guards to lolligag around the perimeter laterally and not even look at the big men. Rojo is okay at it too but OG, Z and Colin seem to be the only dudes executing this particular action

Gregg Doyel @GreggDoyelStar
Crean said his mother is "not well." Izzo is the best, you know that? twitter.com/ZachOsterman/s…
Zach Osterman @ZachOsterman
Tom Crean says Tom Izzo got Crean's mother seats in a box at the Breslin Center. Also gave his mother his parking space for the game. #iubb

Part of the reason Yogi is tired, or played tired, is because he has been guarding the opponents top player as well. He chased Iowas Jok all around the court. I did not get s chance to watch MSU. Did he guard Valentine or another good player in that game?
