Indiana @ Michigan Post-Game Thread

Recommended Posts

This team has stretches where we look like the best team in the country, and we showed some of that tonight. Let's try and make that an all game every game type of thing and wipe out those Nittany Lions.

The problem is the stretches, like the beginning of the game, where they lack focus and play matador defense.  If they can do away with that, I think that they can get back to that pre-season ranking.

skimming through the very little basketball forums they have for UM, they are blaming the loss on the exposure of the Harbaugh's and the love they showed for Crean.  Also, the players giving Max a warm welcome back did not get their minds right for the game.

Well done Max!  You did your job!  Mind games!!!!!!!!

The early timeout by Crean in the first half was a game changer.

This blew my mind...I had a smile ear-to-ear and about fell off the couch when he called that TO.

Before, he would have let them flounder until the next TV TO.  Hopefully he saw the power that had and will implement it more, as needed of course.

Got to say...did not see that coming.

28-0 run...are you serious!

Great win...OG is working on being a starter. :Love that kid.

og will never start this season cause crean don't want to offend anyone imo. What a great game last night though man that was fun

Fantastic game. I wasn't impressed with the last 2 games prior to the Michigan game. I was hopeful Michigan would cure that, as Crean has done well vs them. Crean is still very much in prove it to me mode, imo. Happy for the team and Crean for the big win. Keep the momentum going and win the conference.

OG and Morgan aren't the only ones demonstrating growth this season. Crean is coaching some of his best ball since the 2011-2012 team.

Next morning... I am so happy to be wrong last night. That was a huge win and makes up for close UW loss. Still a brutal schedule upcoming. 6 or 7 of 8 games will be very tough. If we finish 5-3 I'd be happy with that. 14-4.

Well if we can hold serve at home that could be enough for a share of the Big Ten title.

I was only able to watch the beginning and end of yesterday's game, which meant I saw IU be outscored by 20 points... guess I might have to only listen to the games from now one. Sports superstitions suck.

As I'm sure no one noticed, I was away for pretty much the entire game yesterday. But, I watched it from tip, what ended up happening was the kid was still awake and I was fixing her dinner for oh, about the first 5-7 minutes of the game.

Then, we had a timeout and I sat down on the edge of the couch in an uncomfortable but quick response without losing sight of the TV spot.

Spent right up until Burton took the court in that spot because everything I know about sports said if I sat anywhere else then it would be our downfall.

So, I hear you. Better position to be in than you, but I hear you.

Anyone know the NCAA record for largest run while holding the opponent scoreless in conference play?

I know the record for FG% is 74% (TB is still just barely beating it).

They don't measure it by only conference play:

SCORING RUN VS. A DIVISION I OPPONENT 39-0—Oklahoma vs. Weber St., Dec. 22, 2014 (led 10-4 with 13:23 left in the first half and run ended at 49-4 at 1:53)

Wow, that would have been just unlikely. Well, the team last night would have done that against Weber State.

Relatively good win.

What I really want to know is, who was the old codger sitting next to Beilein on the bench, filling his ear? The man looked to be in his late eighties, and the expression on Beilein's face was priceless; looking straight ahead, and trying his hardest not to acknowledge the old fart's existence.

I have not seen a better defensive effort by an IU team since Knight's departure. I'm sure we've had a few games in that stretch where we played good defense, but the switching, helping and communication I saw against Michigan was truly exceptional. The result was that even though Zeisloft had a rough night we still blew out a good team on its home court. Remember (I know it's been posted elsewhere) that Maryland lost on this floor. We have so much athleticism on this team that when they really want to play defense, they're as good as anyone.

We have all the components of a contender for the B1G and even the NCAA...a point-guard leader who's perhaps the best in the game, a big man who can rebound and take it to the hoop, an experienced supporting cast including two grad-school seniors who have probably seen it all and role players like Hartman and RoJo. And it's hard not to love it when the inexperienced freshmen (OG and Morgan) enter the game. It's like we never take a step backward because of either of them, and both usually do something positive for the team.

At tipoff, I felt we could take Michigan to the wire, and if we hadn't played that stifling defense, it would have been a close battle all the way. As it was I'm sure Michigan is picking up its pieces and wondering what hit it.

This could be the step forward we've all wanted to see from this team. Or it could be that one great fluke game. We'll see Saturday night. Go Big Red!

I was very surprised and thrilled by what we witnessed last night at Michigan. The finally score doesn't tell the full story of how well our normal rotation players executed.

The ball movement was better, and more shots fell for the team. Still wish Bryant would have had more touches, but Michigan did a good job of covering him.

This team is flat out weird haha. You can't put a finger on it, but there just seems to be something special about them. We have a lot of good pieces in place, especially glue guys like Hartman and OG, then have an end of game play maker in Yogi. He gets a little too selfish, but at the end of games when we need him he seems to make those plays he doesn't earlier in the game.

This team is a fun but frustrating team to watch that seems they could do something special this post-season.

I agree. Unlike previous years, the makeup of this team is just different. Finally there are pieces at every position as well as a solid bench. To have players like OG, JM and MB coming off the bench is just huge. Indiana is never out of a game when they decide to ramp up their defense. Previous years I was less confident when IU would get behind. However, this year I just know that they will claw back into the game despite the deficit. To get punched in the mouth and lead by 21 pts at half is just unheard of.

"Marcus Lee plays like an 8th grader with a yeast infection."

My god lol

Can he do anything besides jump yet? I remember when he was a freshman the media got super high on him because he could jump, not much else, but he sure could jump
