Today's mom is not the problem but she is a symptom of a bigger problem. I see a lack of respect for the Indiana basketball program. And I think the lack of respect goes much deeper than just this incident. Based on the things that have happened over the past two years off the court, this feels like a program that CTC has very little control. And to the larger point, at Indiana we absolutely should have higher standards.

And the way to garner more respect is to shame her and demand more than an apology and whine about what she said? Respect is earned by the team and coach. Condemning Troy's mom for not respecting a team that has earned none is petty and small.

Ok. What does than have to do with the fans? Isn't this thread about how the fans are embarrassed and she hasn't earned her forgiveness and everything because she has desecrated our hallowed Halls? Why are we at Indiana "disgusted" by her behavior if it's just between her and her son?

That sounds like a family thing that would occur no matter how she says them to him. Wait, do we think parents shouldn't be allowed to tell their kids how they feel either?

I was speaking to what I see as a larger problem in my opinion, not Troy's mom and her actions. I don't see a team that plays with toughness and discipline. Indiana does not have overwhelming talent compared to who we want to compete with. To win titles we will need traits I have yet to see consistently.

That, I totally get and support. I'm against the parent idea in this thread that the program somehow cannot tolerate parents posting on their facebook about their kids. And that Troy's mom's actions in doing so were so disgusting she needs to do more than just apologize and we need to teach a valuable lesson about daring to be a family member of a kid at Indiana!

 

The greater idea that this team encourages that kind of criticism and reactions from family's and fans because we are generally a wreck in a lot of ways? Oh for sure. But, that isn't Troy's mom's fault.

 

I mean, we all see this is a screenshot of a facebook post that appears to be on one of Troy's mom's "friend's" feeds forwarded on to the media specifically to make a stink right?

To whom? Looks bad to whom? Talking heads? Recruit's parents? NBA scouts? Other fan bases? Indiana fans?

Can someone find me a few examples of people who care about this whose opinions we value? And explain why we value their opinion?

My mother-in-law once made us leave a concert because she ate onions at dinner and knew everyone thought she smelled bad. She couldn't think of who thought that or why she would care about it, but worked it up so much in her head she couldn't understand everyone else wasn't consumed with it like she was.

That's exactly what is happening with the Indiana fan base here.

"Looks bad" "reflects poorly" these things all require a third party whose opinion we care about. Who are these third parties and why do we think they are even thinking about it?

But fine, you guys want to work yourselves into a lather because Tom Crean isn't controlling a player's mother's personal facebook page and you can do it without realizing how stupid you all sound, go ahead. Guess it gets us more page views anyway.

 

I'm sure you'd be just as upset if Zimmerman's mom had posted the same thing to her facebook. I know you'd all tune in to ESPN 2 because it was a big news story you couldn't get enough of.

In my opinion it made ESPN 2 headlines because it happened at Indiana. If this was a players mom at Indiana state this story wouldn't have even been on the radar
