Old Friend Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 An advantage of marrying into this family. Nice to see we may have some fans in Baltimore. Crean's very first comment is...um...interesting. https://www.facebook.com/IndianaMensBasketball/videos/893589204058993/ GloryDays, Stuhoo, hoosierfan6157 and 1 other 4 Quote
Popular Post BGleas Posted October 15, 2015 Popular Post Posted October 15, 2015 I'm a fan in Baltimore! Didn't have a chance to watch the video yet, but as much as much flack as we give Crean, this trip was a great coaching move. First, it got the guys away from campus together and should be a great bonding move. Second, they visited Annapolis/Naval Academy, John's Hopkins Lacrosse, did some charity work, and visited with Harbaugh, those some really good things for developing leadership.I think we all need to hand it to Crean on this one. Trips like this can pay dividends later. djsalway, Hutch89, 8bucks and 5 others 8 Quote
Popular Post WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 15, 2015 Popular Post Posted October 15, 2015 These are the things that make me want Crean to succeed so badly. Full honesty. Then I watch the product on and off the court. I think my emotions mirror much of the fanbase. Alford Bailey, GloryDays, Hoosierboy1980 and 5 others 8 Quote

If he's responsible for 200 things, he's good at 187 of them. But the things at which he struggles are the most visible and also very important. Banksyrules Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I really do like the guy, but he's stubborn and hasn't changed his in game management strategies. I always hope he can change some things so he can be successful. It is what it is. Quote
MartintheMopMan Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I wonder if Jim will meet with the team at all while Michigan is down. John is going to stomp the Niners this weekend, but man I would be happy if Ravens got tired of him and that idiot York was smart enough to hire the less abrasive Harbaugh. That's what this post is about right? I'm actually ass-u-ming because I can't do facebook links at work. Quote

I always hope he can change some things so he can be successful. It is what it is. It's sad really. You would think he would practice what he preaches with his players. He is always harping that the players must improve in specific areas yet you see the same exact, fixable mistakes with him, over and over again. Hard to believe he's attempted improving his deficiencies. Quote

Hard to believe he's attempted improving his deficiencies. Honestly, I don't see that many fixable mistakes with his coaching. Most of the mistakes come from general philosophy, recruitment issues, or inability. I mean, you can't just take Crean aside for an off-season and teach him how to coach defense in a game situation. At this level it has to be second nature and he really is trying to do well. You can't teach Crean to do better on the recruiting trail. You can't teach him that a fast-paced wing-focused play-set is not the way to win basketball games, that comes from his personality and decades of habit and experience. So, where do you find actual teachable areas? I know it's tempting to say "teach him how to break a zone" but it really isn't that simple. And when do you teach him? He has a year round job already without opportunities to take a few months off to learn how to coach. When he isn't directly coaching the team, he is recruiting. I mean, you don't hire a head coach and expect to train him up into the position (looking at you Tomsula), it's too high level a position. It's the same reason CEOs are so valuable. Quote
