Hoosier hysteria

Recommended Posts

We are going to be a team that needs to make shots. We will be smaller than most teams. TB is a solid rebounder but nowhere near Vonleh rebounder. Max is small and will get abused in post IMO. Better than Hartman or Yogi in post though .

Troy is going to have a year if he can make smart plays. Rob looks more composed. JB is JB. Like him but needs to find his shot. It's missing somewhere, so Crean was entirely right in his assessment of JB. Yogi will be great. Hope he doesn't over shoot. Although we may need him to. We are not deep. OG oozes with potential. Long haul but that size and athleticism, I can see why Crean liked him. Morgan has a knack for rebounds. Will play. Needs to toughen up for B1G play.

I watched UK midnight madness. It wasn't overly impressive either but seemed more hype than ours. Part of that may be production. Murray and Skal looked better than Yogi and TB. I hope my eyes deceive me.

Nobody shot the ball particularly well tonight. Despite all this, I still think we have a great year. Our starting 5 is too strong not to. We need to play D though and Rebound.

Well Skal is probably better than TB, if he isn't then we're gonna have a damn good team. Pretty sure Skal is projected as the #1 pick in the draft right now. Yogi has proven himself in college though, I don't care how good Murray could/should be, he has to be below Yogi starting out.

Hartman will help this team too---Crean post-Hysteria says Hartman should be back in about a week.

I too still worry about our interior.....

On the interior concern, if it makes you feel any better Bielfeldt, Morgan, Anunoby, and Bryant are all bigger than anyone else we used last season for the most part outside of Holt. I'm not saying we'll have dominant bigs, but we don't need to with the wings we have. Bryant looked much better than anyone else we used last season.

But anyway, my thoughts on HH:

First off, Juwan Morgan did a pretty good job I thought in the scrimmage. He battled on the boards and scored a few buckets. Should probably be in the rotation. He had trouble guarding Bryant down low, but he was giving up a lot of size there so that's expected/

Anunoby looks like an absolute tank. Didn't matter if we put Bielfeldt on him, looked like he could move whoever we put on him and with his athletic ability that's quite an impressive skill set. He can definitely contribute this season, but his potential is sky high.

Thomas Bryant looked great in the scrimmage, overpowered Morgan in the post a couple times for some buckets and was really good at moving around the basket to get into position to get easy buckets. Set some good screens that cleared the way for a couple buckets too. MUCH better than anyone we had down low last year, if he plays well this team can be really good.

Yogi, and JBJ struggled shooting wise tonight which shouldn't continue. JBJ has improved at attacking the rim and seems to be doing a better job at hiding the ball from shot blockers as he had a couple nice finishes over Bryant I believe. Yogi seemed to do more off the ball work tonight than we were used to seeing from him last season but at the same time always had command over the unit on the floor. He's gonna have another big season.

About Troy, I mentioned in another post how big of a jump he made shooting wise. You can't leave him open now, it's pretty much a pick your poison with him now. He'll be one of the best wings in the country this season. Rojo looked decent tonight as well, hit a couple 3's but pretty quiet night offensively for him. I believe he did set up Bryant a couple times for easy finishes. Our guards need to be able to find him down low.

Lastly, Bielfeldt looked pretty good. Not a great player and doesn't blow you away with anything, he's strong which will help him battle down low even if he's giving up some size and he can spread the floor which fits perfectly in our offense. He'll be a serviceable backup down low. Zeisloft struggled tonight too, his shot didn't seem to be falling in the scrimmage but it's Zeisloft so i'm not worried about that.

All in all I think this team has a lot of potential. We return everyone who was a big part of our team from last season, and add a couple of solid pieces in Anunoby and Morgan who should both help contribute this season and also a potential game changing piece in Thomas Bryant. This is team is going to be really good if everyone stays healthy. Should be a fun year.

I disagree with you guys on Morgan. I know it's just a scrimmage but lacking toughness and athleticism. Also a lil slow IMO. Wasn't impressed at all actually. OG seems to have a knack for rebounds, I think I'll like this young man pretty well

Congratulations to Troy.  He definitely improved his shot and was the first Hoosier ever (I think) to win both the 3 point contest and dunk contest.  He had to compete with Yogi, Zeisloft and Tyra Buss in the finals and put on a great performance in the win.  He clearly dominated the dunk contest too...although nobody else was impressive there.

Juwan Morgan came out to Boys 2 Men?  Bielfeldt came out to Night at the Roxbury?  Did the new guys get to pick their own music or was that a hazing thing?  And why did nobody pick Five Finger Death Punch?  That's good stuff.

Blackmon was terrible in the three point contest, but he really impressed me in the scrimmage.  He looked bigger, stronger, more determined.  He could finish at the rim through contact and played tight defense on Yogi.  His improvement impressed me most last night.

The best part of the night...by far...was Catt's pants.  Wow.

The candy stripe pants exchange is still awkward.  The announcer couldn't get the names right, the exchange was unpracticed and confusing.  This can be a cool thing, but put some practice into it guys.  In fact, the whole night was kinda low energy and unpracticed.  Whoever sets these things up needs to be replaced.  This needs to be a tight, energetic night to impress recruits.  I'm not sure last night's show did.

I think you all are expecting what uk does at there's. Well, that's not going to happen. Overall it was a good show. Not spectacular, but good nonetheless.

It's always funny how every year people walk away slightly disappointed by HH, but every year it seems to seal the deal with a recruit.

It was ok, it's always a cool night.  The videos they showed were nice and touching, the Womens team was funny, the three point shoot out was cool, and it's just always nice to see the guys personalities.  The dunk contest can be awkward at times just because some of the guys just aren't great dunkers.  All in all, it was about what I expected.  The wife and I make the 45 minute trip south every year just to get on campus and check everything out for a free night of hoops.  It is what it is, Go Hoosiers.
