Academic Violations at UCLA?

Recommended Posts

Our boy Alford, keeping it class-y! Let's see how the NCAA reacts to having another one of its top programs come under scrutiny.

@bradwolverton: Missed classes, a changed grade, and one disillusioned adviser: An inside look at UCLA basketball. http://t.co/aWqGqIUEf8

There is a strange aura that seems to follow the 'golden boy' from Iowa to New Mexico and now to UCLA!

He thinks it's the 80s and he can protect players without information not getting out there. That has been his recurring theme. In that setting you can't control everything in house anymore.

I really don't care anymore about other schools issues anymore until something is done. It seems like it takes forever for something to happen to them if ever but if it involves iu crap hits the fan immediately no matter how small the violation. I hope for justice with nc, Louisville, and ucla but not sure it will ever happen.

Considering how North Carolina is still recruiting I'm not sure a formal investigation has much impact.

Wouldn't be so sure about that. If you look at the time of commitments Carolina went almost 2 years without a top 100 player committing. Just recently they picked up a few (two I believe) top 100 recruits, but this is still a significant drop off from the players Roy was bringing in before.

i hear you on your overall point. But, UNC has had 4 or 5 star players in each of the '15, '16 and '17 classes. Put another way, while under investigation by the NCAA, they have out recruited Indiana

If the NCAA comes down on UNC do you think the players not on campus just committed still go? Until they make a ruling I highly doubt Roy tells them he is worried.

who knows, depends on if there is a punishment and if there is, what that entails. They aren't over any limits on numbers so if it is just a decrease of a scholarship or two, I think they end up coming. Kids don't typically commit to a school with the intention of decommitting so I think it would take a lot for them not to come.

My point is that this stink cloud over UNC hasn't really slowed them down which is amazing

I definitely get your point, but if it comes out there is a postseason ban they will likely lose a bunch of commits.  I agree that kids don't commit to decommit, but sometimes the landscape changes then other coaches get in a kids ear.  I would normally say a kid is as committed to a school as he is would be to a high school girlfriend, until he puts pen to paper.  In this instance though, kids would be let out of LOI's if there is a postseason ban or any of that.  Of course UNC is going to tell kids its business as usual.  If they didn't they wouldn't be getting recruits.  Once the NCAA makes their decision, if there is a ban lets see how loyal these kids are.  Some will stay, but most will go.

The stink over UNC has absolutely affected their recruiting. They aren't even sniffing the usual 5* elite prospects they are accustomed to getting. They are landing some solid talent but they usually could be put down for 2-3 McD's AA's per year. Brandon Ingram grew up a UNC fan his entire life and chose Duke!

I agree with everything else you said.

Does it feel like there are more reports of violations coming out in the last couple of years to anyone else? Maybe they're just better reported, but it feels like you can't go a month without a major program getting into some kind of hot water.

The NCAA is such a colossal joke. Hanner Perea and Peter Jurkin missed a significant amount of time for the bumper sticker bs. They were swift in that judgement against us. Hard to convince me that they dont have a personal vendetta towards IU. I'd be fine with the NCAA being completely dismantled.
