FKfootball Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I have been scratching my head about this for a while. I absolutely cannot rap my head around the fact that of the top 15 recruits in Indiana 13 of them are committed and none of them to Indiana! That is absolutely absurd! Kentucky for comparison sakes, they are as bad as we have been the last few years, but they are killing us in recruiting. They have 5 of their top 10 in-state prospects. Including their top 3(all four star prospects.) Wilson needs to make a statement this year or I'm on board with hiring a re-tread like Ron Zook who can actually recruit some of the best players in our state. Quote

FKfootball Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 If you're complaining about Wilsons recruiting of all things, you must really dislike Wilson No. I like the guy a lot. We have had some bad breaks in his tenure. We have recruited a lot better, but this 2016 class isn't promising. I think it means this season is absolutely critical. Quote

I think it means this season is absolutely critical. Yeah, there's been some luck issues and this season is definitely pivotal for him. But I disagree, I think he's recruiting always starts fairly slow and he's pulling kids from the south. I don't think it matters too much that we aren't locking down our state in football. I'd rather pick from Georgia, Florida etc. We could be doing a lot worse recruiting wise IMO even in this class Quote

ThompsonHoosier Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Well it doesn't help that recruits don't know whether Wilson will still be here in a season or two. We need a bowl game and an extension after this season! Quote
FKfootball Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 I agree that an extension would really help Wilson a lot. Quote
HoosierReb01 Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I doubt that the staff is done with recruiting those Indiana players. Be interesting to see what a good season (and a extension) might do in those cases in January and February. Quote
MartintheMopMan Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Are we really doing this "Indiana kids are the best why do we recruit other places" crap for football now too? You know why Indiana kids aren't coming to play football for IU? Because they had an opportunity to watch the team sometime in the last 18 years and were considering having a winning season for their freshman years. Living here in Oregon, I had the opportunity to meet Marcius Mariota a few times. You know what he said to me when I showed up in my IU gear? HoosierReb01 Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Methinks the OP is unhappy that we haven't secured any of the top players in the state, not that somehow they are better because they grew up in Indiana. WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote

Crimson and Cream Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I understand the frustrations, but just realize our competition for in-state guys includes elite programs like ND, Ohio St., Michigan, and Michigan St. as well as other schools such as Purdue, Illinois, and Ball St. In order to separate ourselves from the 2nd pack and start pulling in some top-level in-state guys, we'll need a bowl game this season to get their attention. That is certainly doable. We have had quite a few in-state guys in recent years, we just haven't been able to get in yet for this 2016 class, but it's not too late. As another poster stated, guys flip commits in football all the time, and a successful season this year could be just what some of these Indiana boys are waiting on. Quote

I think pulling an upset here and there this season and making it to a bowl game will really turn the heads of some recruits. It will finally show the progress of the program! I mean last year's win at Mizzou received plenty national attention. Crimson and Cream 1 Quote
Flash3 Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 To be honest... I'd rather solely recruit kids from the south. Those are the best players in the nation. But if we're going to win it's going to have to be with 3 stars. I think a problem for our team is speed. Especially on defense. We need a big boost of speed on that side of the ball. Speed and depth. The offense will be fine under Wilson. Just too many problems defensively. Slow, bad instincts, slow instincts, no aggression, weak tackling, hardly a blitz in the world. Quote
