Shaka Smart to Texas

Recommended Posts

In my opinion, he will do extremely well.

I think he will show that he is more than a one-trick pony, and is quite simply a really good coach. Kinda disagree with 41 here. I think he would be a success no matter where he went, including IU.

Good for him. Wish him luck. Will be interested to see what happens when he takes Havoc to a big school.

No Ill will from me, didn't want him at IU anyway.

Fair enough. Maybe I'm just a sucker for energy, but his system really intrigues me. Or perhaps I'd like to see a more aggressive defensive mindset in general.

Good luck to him. Not sure how well havoc works in a big conference. I just remember trey Burke and Michigsn ran rampant over them to win by 20+ and a verdell jones IU team beat them. I wouldn't want him at IU unless he can prove it at another major conference school first. I do think it was a good move for him.

Jones didn't play in that game though.

He is another one of the coaches from a smaller school I feel will do well at the larger program. He was already recruiting well at VCU and landing some 4 star talent. He should be able to increase his recruiting prowess with the abundant resources he will have at his disposal at UT and by utilizing the B12. It will be which private jet does he want to take on a recruiting trip. His teams have put up points on the board as well over the past three years.

From 06-09, Anthony Grant went 76-25 and won the CAA all 3 years (and the conference tourney twice) at VCU, then went to Bama and didn't do crap. Now Shaka has the tourney run on him, but to me, Shaka is Grant part deux until he proves he can win in a big conference. I'm glad Texas is taking the risk and not us.

Good for him! Like someone said here earlier, kinda glad he was hired at Texas so when we finally get rid of Coach. We won't look Shakas way. Hope he has success at Texas! Like his style just not his system if that even makes sense?? Lol
