I want Tom Crean to stay

Recommended Posts

I have yet to see any good reason that would make anyone want Cream to stay. I just don't get it.

I like Crean's chances better than anyone else that is lined up to replace him. That's all. None of the names that have been speculated about are any more proven or accomplished than Crean.

Why? As I said I still haven't seen a single reason why anyone would think that.

What bothers me is that you have a team that was ranked #1 which by the way had 2 top 5 NBA draft picks and we couldn't win the whole thing with what we had. I still don't get it to this day :scratchhead:

Upsets the equivalent of Syracuse beating IU happen multiple times every year in the tournament. People on here act like that was an all time great upset when in actuality it doesn't register nationally as a great upset.

You can call them wings, I call them forwards. How about we agree with the NBA and call them all frontcourt players?

Except neither one plays in the front court. If you followed their recruitment you wouldn't call them front court players or forwards. They play primarily on the wing

i agree with this some. It has to be a big time hire. Although, Crean has had lots of opportunity to prove himself though and hasn't in my estimation.

because in a single elimination tournament anything can happen. March madness is the greatest sporting event in my opinion but it doesn't always crown the best team as champion. The nba champion is always the best team in the nba because their champion is decided by a 7 game series

Good point. KY was one shot from missing the Final 4, with 4 projected first rounders. In college bball the best team doesn't always win, see UCONN last year.

Why not? I'm not here to convince you. Noone here, including you, can predict the future. I guess Archie Miller and Gregg Marshall don't make me tingle like that...

Brendan Dawson and Patrick Connaughton are both "wings" too. They both do a great job in the frontcourt.

Clearly neither OG or Morgan are back to the basket 5s. Hence the continued recruitment of Mater and Bryant.

Look at his track record that's why not. I'm not asking you to convince me. I'm asking you to back up what you're saying. It'd be like me saying I think the Browns will win the Superbowl then saying I don't need to explain why. Marshall doesn't do it for me either.

I never said I could predict the future so don't try putting words in my mouth again. Thanks.

Ouch, kinda prickly.

Crean has proven he can build a #1 ranked team, has proven that he can win the Big Ten title outright, has proven that he can make a deep tourney run. Crean has proven that he can recruit McDonalds All Americans each and every year, has proven that he can do all that with a clean program and a 1000 perfect APR. Who else is available that can check all those boxes?

So, let's be clear. We, as IU fans, do not want to be compared with Notre Dame and Gonzaga, two teams in this year's elite 8 who each won their conference tourney?? Tow teams that are AP top 10 and won 35 and 32 games, respectively?? Are you sure?

Your statement holds water in 1985, not in 2015...

I'm positive. You are looking at a one year blip in time. If both of those teams performed like they have this year, every year then yes. You could then include VCU and Wichita State and several other programs that have recently made runs to the final four. One trip to the final four does not make one elite, winning 5 championships in 4 different decades does.

Sir, Stevens and Donovan are NOT walking through that door. Whoever convinced you as such did you a disservice...

You said speculation. There has been tons of speculation about both. Also, these ultimate statements are the best, even more when they get proven false

Idk about deep tourney run. Only made it past the sweet sixteen 1 time and that was 12 years ago with a remarkable D Wade.

Has proven he can underachieve with that team. Has proven that he cant sustain success. Has proven he can miss the tourney and even the NIT. Has proven that he can't do anything with McDonalds All Americans. Has proven that he cant make in game adjustments. Has proven that he can have players getting bullied and arrested on multiple occasions and not do anything about it. Do I want a guy that can check the boxes I just listed?

Eh, I get the impression that some of the more pro-Crean fans that they don't follow as closely everything going on. Obviously I can't say for sure, but I mean I've seen the OP refer to the two guys we actually have committed as guys who can help out down low...... when they are wings

OG is definitely a wing, but Morgan definitely has some post game. Solid rebounder and pretty good at getting into position in the paint and does a good job feeding the perimeter from there as well. I'm actually pretty excited to see him play the 4 or 5 with some of our shooters. From his tapes and a few games I watched, he has pretty good vision and looks for the open man.

Dawson played quit a bit down low in high school. Not even close to an apt comparison

based on what? Just as much of a hunch as thinking Crean is IUs best choice as coach.

What has Donovan or Stevens said or done to make you think they want to come to IU? Anything, public or private? It is pure speculation. Why would they want to quit their current jobs and walk in here to work under the scrutiny of this fan base? The money in Boston and FL is just as green and the life is much less stressful.

You can Crean now and you are going to get a Gregg Marshall or Archie Miller or Larry Krystkowiak. No thanks.
