Troy Williams returning to IU!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I totally agree that he won't transfer and that he isn't a pro. But that doesn't matter if HE thinks he's a pro. I think Troy stays if Crean does, but if not, I'd say all bets are off and rash decisions could be made.

We all remember Jay Edwards and his poor decisions. Of course, it had a bad dude in his ear who convinced him to drop out and take a shot at the league. That failed miserably. Hopefully Troy has better advisors, including Uncle Boo.

I see a lot of comparison to oladipo, you all realize how special Vic was right?

Uhh exactly. Vic was good enough to mask Crean's ineptitude on both offense and defense with his individual play. Troy's not close nor do I think he ever will be on par with Oladipo.

Didn't Jeffries leave early as well?

Yeah he did. Not a great career though. Kirk Haston also left early and got hurt after a few years(he would've been a senior the year we went to the championship game). Bracey Wright left early and didn't really play much at all in the NBA, but has had a long career in Europe.

JJ carved out a pretty good career for himself. Played 13 years in the league. He was a role player, but to stay in the league that long is an accomplishment

If I recall correctly, Knight had already booted Edwards from the team when he decided to go pro.

A real shame that Haston left early...we could have had an amazing team had he stayed.

I mean he stayed in the league for 13 years but was the 11th pick overall in the 2002 draft and his career average was 4.8 ppg and 4.1 rebounds. He was a body out there but definitely didn't live up to the projections

According to this link, it sounds like it was Edwards' choice. However, he did experience academic issues and failed a drug test/did rehab. Not sure it matters, in the end.

The article also cites Isiah Thomas as the only other player to leave IU early under Knight (up to that time). I know that George McGinnis also left early for the ABA, so who knows how accurate anything in the article is.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Jay Edwards, the Big Ten Conference player of the year, will pass up his final two years of college eligibility and make himself available in the June 27 NBA draft, the Indiana University sports information office said today.

The 6-foot, 4-inch sophomore, who averaged 20 points a game, was a second-team All-America selection by the Associated Press.

Edwards has had academic problems at Indiana and underwent a drug rehabilitation program last fall.

The only other Indiana player to leave early for the NBA during Knight's 18 years as coach was Isiah Thomas, who departed in 1981 after leading the Hoosiers to the second of their three NCAA championships under Knight.

Im pretty sure it was just Isaiah and Jay. Although Ive read in a lot of places that Knight told Edwards to go pro because he would be allowed back on the team. George McGinnis did leave early for the ABA but he didn't play under Knight.

My bad. McGinnis and Knight passed each other on the way out/in. McGinnis left after the '70-'71 season and Knight came for the '72 season. I guess I just assume that McGinnis played for Knight because of McGinnis' close association at Indy Washington with Steve Downing.
