Potential fallout from coaching change

. He was lead recruiter for Matt Howard, Shawn Vanzant, and Zach Hahn. He also recruited Gordon Hayward, Ronald Nored, and Shelvin Mack as their head coach. This contingency that you speak of is out of their minds with those claims.

it's a contingency of IU fans...

it's on twitter...I'm not revealing anything new...

. I don't claim to have any insider knowledge whatsoever. I'll be completely transparent. My barber said he cuts the hair of a prominent, retired IU Med Dr. who doesn't have a ton of pull but rubs elbows with those who do. He said the customer of his told him that Crean and IU are mutually parting ways and Indiana is VERY confident that they have a great chance to hire who they've reached out to. He said he was told that the fanbase is getting what it wants. He never said any coaches name. I'm just choosing to believe that my fantasy is going to manifest.

. I realize that. I just think the claims are complete nonsense. Anyone who actually believes that isn't thinking straight. It's most likely a contingency that really wants Crean to stay put. Those claims you listed were extreme reaches to discredit Stevens work at Butler and in Boston (he's killing it right now with a bad NBA roster). It amazes me that some can come to those conclusions.

. Doesn't make as much sense to me. We'd have to lure him away from UF. He's currently making roughly $5 million per. We may be able to match that, but we aren't surpassing that by much if any. Stevens on the other hand would be getting a $1.5 million annual raise if we were to offer him $5 mil per. Not to mention all of the other things that would factor into making Stevens to IU a no brainer with that kind of money on the table. Billy D would kill at IU but this would be a total shock to me if it happened. I cant twist this any way to make it make sense.

Heard this quite a few times, never from anyone I consider super sourced though. Doesn't mean it isn't true though. The rest of this rumor is Crean to Alabama and Marshall will be Indiana's next coach. It's rumored to be a done deal already.

I see one Final Four.

Tom Crean has one Final Four and two Sweet Sixteens.

I want our next hire to be a no-brainer.

Brad Stevens or bust. I don't want to have to get my hopes up for a promising coach like Gregg Marshall, only to watch him crumble under the pressure.

I hear ya on the no brainer part. I want Stevens as much as everyone else. I'm bring Marshall I to the conversation as a guy who has done fantastic work and would still be an upgrade if BS says no.
The mans tournament record should be taken with a grain of salt bc he was at small schools. But notice how he has dominated his conference with like players. This is a Bo Ryan level move imo. Someone from below the top tier with a long proven track record that plays a style IU fans like/understands/appreciates.

Which makes Friday all the more interesting.

My main worry about Marshall is that he has had a great three years at WSU, but that it has been done with the same core group of players (Van Vleet, Cotton, Baker, Early for 2/3). Yes, he won at Winthrop too, but it was against a small conference schedule.. Also, he is older than Crean.

Stevens only won with inherited talent? You gotta be kidding me. This year he inherited one of the worst NBA rosters one could imagine, and he's on the verge of taking them to the playoffs.

since the discussion is about Devils and Salvation tonight...allow me to add my 2 cents...

there is a contingency that believes that Brad Stevens didn't develop his teams...

that he inherited them...

what if...

that's true?

what if...

Butler was led by Brad's predecessor?

uhh ohh...what then?

If this were true, then a bigger fool than us would have been Boston, and I don't think that organization makes many mistakes.

Head to head isn't a good way to compare coaches. Mike Davis best Tom Izzo, Rick Pitino and Coach K in the same year, and no one will confuse him for a good coach.

Read my other posts. I'm just talking about the image of it. Getting beat by Crean and then limping into Btown to replace him lol.

Marshall is only 52 years old, so his age isn't important. He has a solid 15-20 years left in the tank.

What you knocked Marshall for you could knock Stevens for. He had a core group of players that made his job easier and more successful. The difference is Marshall has shown he could win championships without those guys. He also identified thosenguys and recruited those guys.
Stevens would be the grand slam but if he has said no, Gregg Marshall is a home run.

These names I've seen around like Donovan and Pitino are a joke. Those guys aren't leaving for another college job. No matter who we hire outside of Stevens, ppl with complain. So we get the best guy we can and if it is Marshall, we just got a big upgrade.

Yes it is a homerun.

I wouldn't call it a homerun either. I think Marshall is an upgrade but in fairness his tourney history isn't any better, but at least his Final Four is recent while Crean wad over 5 years removed and hadnt even done much in regular season.

Their regular season careers aren't even close to a comparison, Marshall blows him out of the water, but postseason isn't much different.

BTW, Pitino wanted this job before when he was coaching Louisville.
