Potential coaching change suggestions

Recommended Posts

Like Calbert and lead recruiter Johnson and our strength coach taking his "dream Job". We have collectively ex head coaches as assistants yet we still play our smallest player in the post. Plus do the stand around panick and throw up a prayer or how's that ball taste offense only all that experience can draw up. They're all nice just like Crean, and I hope they find secure jobs coaching somewhere else. Crean can be they're highest reference just like Glass can be Creans and vice versa.

yep, Calbert, Johnson, and other losses are far more telling than many want to admit. I never fully believed the excuses for these departures.

Chuck is still > Kenny though. That one was easy to get over.

maybe, maybe not. I like Chuck, but what has he done that we know of (Holt)? Got us in the door for others like Bryant but zilch. Didn't get Troy, Rob, Vonleh. I like him and see what your saying but results speak, and I'm not so sure.

Still not sure about Johnson.  How much of a pay increase did he get?  When a program that has had more recent success comes calling with more pay it's hard to turn down as an assistant coach.

how so?

I think recruiting and connections alone Chuck is superior. He has us in with some top talent including Bryant, and he knew of Emmitt who I am really excited to see grow. There really isn't a big sample size with either guy though. I just personally like Chuck more. And he's awesome at Twitter.

I can see his family wanting out of Bloomington with all the backlash Crean is getting.  Thing is though, it wouldn't be any different at any school that cares about basketball.  If UK or Duke or UNC or Kansas were to hire him, won't happen in any universe, he'd get the same criticism when they see what he is.

He'd be fine someplace that doesn't give a crap about this game because his abilities and his coaching won't be looked at nearly as closely.

Give Stevens the Moon. Whatever it takes to bring him home to his DESTINY and in turn our birthright! Hoosier Greatness!

That's the absolute first call I'd make, and I'd do whatever it takes to get it done.  The guy grew up idolizing IU, and he was in the stands when Bob Knight threw the chair.  He watched the 1987 championship multiple times.  It would have to tug at his heart to have the opportunity to coach at the same school as a coach he idolized.  Mike Lewis compared him to Knight, and said Butler was the closest he'd seen to IU since he was at IU.  He's about as close an "IU guy" as you can be without actually being "part of the family", and he's one heck of a coach.

It may not happen, could always be a timing issue, but Brad Stevens is the perfect fit.

Opposing fans wouldn't be saying they hope we keep the coach forever, or that we deserve better, they'd be saying "oh s***!".

I like Chuck, seems like he has given it his all since he has been here and I like the Holt addition but he is an average bigten player, nothing special yet. His twitter is funny but that isn't his intent which is sad if anything. Kenny brought in almost every 4/5 star recruit we got while he was here and has already done it at Louisville. Our recruiting fell off a cliff after he left

Pitino could have gone after Chuck but he didn't, he went after Kenny for a reason

Yeah I didn't dislike Kenny at all. I'm not really sure what it is...I just like Chuck more. And it isn't that surprising that recruiting fell off because Chuck basically just got here. He needs a little time to lay down a recruiting foundation here (which he may not get, but that's a discussion happening in every thread on here). If Chuck is here for another few years, it'll be interesting to see how his recruiting stacks up with Kenny's few years here.

I'm not a Shaka fan, in terms of wanting him at IU. I'm not sure his style would translate to the Big Ten, but let's not discount what he's done at VCU. He's had VCU in the top 25 fairly regularly. That alone is a pretty good accomplishemnt and shows his coaching chops, then add in the Final Four.

Again, I don't think he's the guy for IU and would put him pretty far down my list of new coaches for IU, but he's done more than just the one Final Four run at VCU.

Absolute pass on Shaka.  He had one great run to a Final Four and nothing else.  Unless I'm missing something?

He pulled a stud recruit out of SC that a lot of the big schools wanted. It had me scratching my head, but the man can obviously recruit.
