Post Game IU vs. Northwestern

Recommended Posts

Probably. Imo it comes down to how the next 2-3 years shake out with him and Wojo. Dawkins has pretty much taken himself out of the running with his performance at Stanford. If Collins or Wojo shine, I think Duke stays in house. Hurley's not doing bad at Buffalo either.

Hey Blue Devil, what's the thinking on Coach Ks timeline? I was thinking 5 more years tops.

I'm think around the same. He's getting up there in age so I'm really enjoying what time Duke fans have left with him.

I would have 0 problems with us poaching him in the future. I know there are sexier names out there, but I have a feeling in the right situation he could be special. Would we have to live in fear of him "going home" to Duke?

Good question. Right now it looks like him or Wojo. Not real high on Wojo as a head coach yet but like what Collins is doing at NW. He's got a challenge getting kids with admission standards but still think he's done a good job so far. Even have seen Stevens tied as a possible replacement but haven't put much stock in it and he's probably on many many lists.

It's fun to discuss possibilities especially as time goes by; it's unfortunate Stevens is 90% not going to be interested.

Don't know if anyone has heard or can solidly refute. He's all in with Boston. As long as they'll have him, he's there. Most believe any eventual return to college would be at Butler, and the commitment that it takes at Indiana is not really what he wants for his family life. You never know, though, until it's time to actually make the decision.

Fred Hoiberg's availability, that I don't know. Vbg

And in the east he's still playing for a playoff spot. Having a decent year with the limited talent he has.

Stevens, or I'll revoke my IU fandom. We hire Gregg Marshall I'm a fair-weather fan. Anyone else. No.

I want IU to win and do not care who the coach is anymore. RMK isn't coming back, so we need to get the best coach that will come to IU. I question if Marshall will come to IU, and if he would match the success he has had at WSU. He has been able to recruit a good team. He can schedule a decent pre-conference schedule and be at the top of his conference with a good chance to win every year. His formula works and may not transfer or be as easy to match at any Big 10 school.

We have no proof Stevens will have the same success at IU that he had at Butler. I believe he can be as good, but is he the best fit for us? I remember when Jim Crews was the heir apparent. That would not have been good. I wouldn't be surprised if Richard Pitino wasn't considered. His dad isn't going to coach forever and might like a position as an unofficial volunteer coach for a program like IU.

IU is an elite program... But let's hire Chris Collins!! Sheeeeesh...

I agree with you that Chris Collins in  no way deserves the IU job at this point. Not that I don't see him being a big time winner down the road, but this next hire has to be knocked out of the park. All avatars aside, I think that Stevens is truly IU's Renaissance Man. After him, I think the list of guys who could meet our expectations are few and far between. I don't envy Fred Glass.

This argument always gives me a laugh

What Butler coach has gone on to achieve great success beyond Butler, though? Matta, a one year coach at Butler? That's about it. It's not a good argument to make, but it's worth mentioning as it is certainly possible that Stevens or any established coach could struggle at IU. Look at Crean.

Let the discussion about other coaches possibly coming to IU die in this thread fellas. Take it elsewhere

It seems to be the only thing anyone is interested in.This has little to do with the Northwestern loss other than that's what pushed over the top the perceived need for a change.

.Why don't you kill this thread and start a new one called Who should replace CTC?

There's not another active thread on the board. That's where the collective mindset's at.
