IU vs Rutgers Post Game Thread

Recommended Posts

God, I wish I could think of something good to say about this win, other than

the fact that it was a win. Perhaps that's all it needs to be. Perhaps I'm too critical.

Second rate opponent on the down side of a long, losing season

Ego bruised team looking for redemption, a bit of distance from the last game, and a sacrificial lamb.

Mission accomplished.

Posters not being able to find anything good to say about a conference win?

- A conference road victory

- After a terribly sloppy start they cleaned up the turnovers

- Ball and player movement returned to the offense

- Held a team below their season PPP average (when was the last time we did that) on the road

Are people so caught up in Crean hating they can't watch a game objectively and find the good in the team?  That seems like a pretty miserable place to be.

I was really going crazy with the early turnovers and sloppy start. We settled down and played a good game. I want to be really happy about a 30 point road win, but that start keeps popping up. This team has to learn to grab the ball and protect it. Troy needs to give the ball to one of the guards. I trust their handle and decision making more than Troy. He can still run up the court and be on the receiving end of a drive for a layup.

I was pleased with HMP and thought Holt was able to get a few rebounds and hope that he continues to get more minutes backing up Hanner and that Collin isn't hurt and can back up Troy.

April showed that he has potential even though it was against reserve players on the worst team in the league. To be honest, Hartman hasn't been that effective on either end of the court in the post for the past few games. April may not be the answer in that spot, but it would have been interesting to see if he could have developed his defensive and rebounding skills with game experience.  If he isn't putting in the work, he can't be rewarded, but at some point you have to play the best player for the position. His height and longer wingspan would have been helpful instead of using a guard or small forward to defend the post.

I deliberately stayed away from the board after the PU game, figuring there'd be Crean haters out in force. Not that CTC had anything to do with the fact that we didn't make free throws that would have made the difference in that one.

It was certainly a nice change of pace to relax through a Hoosier blowout Sunday. Rutgers was really, really bad. How they beat Wisconsin, even without Kaminsky, is a real head-scratcher.

Watching April at the end makes me wonder how this team will line up next year. I was sure he'd be transferring, and he still might, but the fact is we have zero graduating seniors and two scholarship recruits (at least) headed our way. I really don't see anybody jumping to the NBA. Troy might, but if he stays another year he could well be a lottery pick instead of a lower-level choice. JBJ obviously isn't ready for the pros, either.

That means somebody on scholarship has to transfer. April? Devin? I fear Stan will be leaving, and I wouldn't blame him if he wanted more playing time. With no guards graduating and another coming in, his playing time next year won't be growing.
