Who this team is and where they're going

My biggest fear for this season may be coming true. I'd be thrilled if Crean could win large and show improve. But a mediocre, or slightly better season will keep him at the helm just long enough to waste a few more seasons. I'd rather swing for the fences.

He'll win enough home games and crap non-con games to stay aboard. I'd be thrilled if he gave me hope that he could get IU to be a national powerhouse but I don't see it.

I think he's assured himself one more year. Unless there is a complete second half collapse this season, he'll be back. I doubt that will happen anyway as our schedule lightens up after Maryland. Plus you have to account for the buyout and when that significantly drops.

At this point though, it almost doesn't matter if he's back or not for one more year, as these problems are going to take a few years to correct anyway.

I try to stay positive on here, but it's hard to sometimes. Here's the way I see things.

Some games coach has impressed me with his decision making. Then there are the games where I'm left scratching my head, wondering if he forgot what was successful for him the game before.

I honestly fell like as long as IU wants to have the occasional good year mixed with general mediocrity, then CTC is the man. If IU wants to become a consistent top team, we better look elsewhere.

I am in total agreement with you and this is something I've stated all along. I DON'T want mediocre! Some will probably kill me for saying this but I'd rather we suck than be mediocre. Mediocre will bring us more years of the same thing. At least if we suck there will be no denying that we have to make a change. I really believe that for Crean it should be win big or go away time.

I'm not saying this because I dislike Crean and want him gone. As a matter of fact it's just the opposite. I'd much rather see him get it together and start winning big and stay for a long time...but if he doesn't let's all move on. Get it done or go away!

As I stated earlier I'm kinda willing to give him a pass on the first three seasons. The program was in shambles and he had to build it up. But the last 3.5 years?I think it's a disturbing trend. Only one of those years have we beat expectations. Zellers freshman year. His sophomore year? It was nice being ranked number one but when you get bounced in the sweet sixteen the number one ranking is kinda...meh. We have regressed from there.

I see absolutely no way that Crean is gone after this season unless some type of off court issue of a large magnitude comes up. I do feel though that he should be made to understand after this season that next year is sink or swim. Elite eight or better...or your gone! Results matter! Do better. Consistently!

If Glass has a problem firing Crean? Then somebody needs to tell him he's gone also!

same place we are now...middle of the pack big ten team

Also, unless you're Wisconsin, who's easily the best team in the B1G, or one of the dumpster fire teams, the other 10 teams are all fairly equal and fighting it out to be in the top half of the conference. IU is in position to be in the top 5 by the end of the year.

and again, not taking shots but stating facts. Our preseason prediction was appalling and I place the blame on the coach. You don't seem to have any issue wit it. It denotes your loyalty to the coach. I'm being honest with my assessments, not taking shots.

I'd like to highlight that you're blaming Crean for the national media predicting, during the preseason, that we would finish 9-10th in the B1G. Crean is currently exceeding those predictions, and you accuse me of blind loyalty to the coach for stating that fact. Meanwhile, you're placing blame on the coach for preseason predictions.

I've given up making any blunt albeit honest observations about either Crean or the team in general. It usually elicits too many arguments, and I'm the one that ends up hearing about it. It's much easier to sit here quietly, and watch things unfold. They are what they are.

Coach is very much involved in the preseason rankings.  His results from previous year, his players, his returning players, his recruited players, and his coaching go into preseason rankings.  Look at Michigan St, for example, they absolutely had less talent (national scouting wise) returning than we do but they still are ranked by most services in the 3-6 spots in the B1G.  The coach as a lot to do with rankings, regular or preseason.

When is the last time you've seen UK, Kansas, OSU, Duke etc not ranked in the preseason top 25.  The bring in reinforcements as recruits and win year in and year out.  Crean doesn't do that, hence the poor preseason ranking.

RMK looks so happy in your avi. He's a grizzled, cranky looking old bear these days.

Can't believe you're trying to defend that stance. The teams failure can be placed on coach. Preseason rankings are predictions made by analysts.

Coach is still putting together a good year with this roster. Any failures can be credited to him whether you want to call it roster management or coaching. But right now there's been more to be happy about this year. With 10 games left, we're only two wins away from matching last season's record. That is significant improvement season over season with limited roster additions and the loss of a McDAA, lottery pick center.

If we lose at home to Rutgers then r we allowed to panic? I am not happy with the way this team play's on certain nights but if by some miracle we win the next two we r right back in this thing so let's keep a cool head for now. I dont agree with anybody who wants to blame posters for losing there minds or cliff jumping after last night because it was purdue and we looked terrible.
