IUBB vs. Ohio St. Post Game Thread

Recommended Posts

I think we found water reaching its rightful level in this game. There was a time that adjectives like "pre-Zeller bad" were floating around this board. Obviously that was a gross overreaction.

Matta had it right in the post-game: OSU missed enough shots it should have made to win. But on the road, those shots don't fall like they do at home. We'll have a much more uphill fight against OSU in Columbus.

We have now shown we can beat anyone we play in the B1G at home (we don't play Wisconsin in Bloomington). So if we can hold our own and steal just one more road game, that's 11-7 and a sure tournament bid. Are we better than that? 13-5 looks possible without guys with white coats coming in my direction.

I think the Illinois game will show us if we're contenders or pretenders. And for sure we aren't good enough to take Penn State for granted...but the MSU loss should be fresh enough in our minds to keep that from happening.

The good news is that we have so much room for improvement that other teams don't have. Given what we saw early in the year, I think Crean has done a great job of getting these guys focused.

I still think with our speed, our depth, our guards, our ball-handling capabilities and our quickness that we should be full-court pressing at least 30 minutes out of the 40.

This is one of the most thought out and levelheaded posts I've seen all year here. I agree with every word.

I think the closeness of this game and the loss at MSU will keep us from going victory drunk into the Penn State game. At least I hope so...

So happy about our rebounding these last several games. The team has mostly committed. Loved seeing Holt, Hartman and Z just putting a butt on someone and just letting the ball hit the ground. All u gotta do!

I think I saw that we've won the rebounding battle in 6 of the last 7...? Very impressed.

Holt and Hartman could hold rebounding clinics with their understanding and use of the block out.

When troy brings the energy he did yesterday he's a good rebounder.

While he isn't as sound fundamentally his elite athleticism is off the charts.

I don't think a single one of these three players has even scratched the surface as to what kind of players they can be.

Holt should play more minutes.

If we're gonna make the tournament, Holt needs to learn to play 25+ minutes a game. I hope he's well conditioned.

If they keep working hard----there is still room for a lot of improvement by tourney time.

And next year will be even better.

Holt and Hartman are the BLOCKOUT BROTHERS!

I agree...
I'm not even sure Holt should start yet...but he certainly deserves more minutes...

I totally agree. Give Perea the nod still unless it's a motivational tactic to bring Perea off the bench. But Holt needs to get about 20 now. Split their time

And Hartman with the take Saturday! I'm fully comfortable with giving him an opportunity if it's some kind of flex set to get him a jumper or just get a switch with a big guy on the perimeter and let hartman use his iq.

Earlier in the year I would agree on a press but now I dont think we are in good enough shape physically to press that much.

Troy Williams reminds me a lot of Rodney Williams who played for Minnesota. Hes a little more talented though. I remember Williams using his extreme length and athletic ability to get to the offensive glass and he developed his 3 pt shot later on. Rod Williams averaged about 7 or 8 rebounds a game his SR year. I think TW can be that effective.

Troy has a much better handle and brings the point forward intangible more to the table imo. When Troy can lead the break someones got to stop him or else he will take it to the rack. When they do try to stop him, it gives our spot up shooters like JB and Z a nice opportunity to hit a 3. Troy is really the x factor on this team as long as we hit the shots and we have some resemblance of an inside game.

Hartman was fantastic in this game, and has been very good this year. My only concern with him is that he's gone into a bit of an "Ethrington mode" offensively of late. His hustle, instincts, rebounding and defense have been great. I also like how he moves the ball quickly on offense, but at the same time I'd like to see him keep the defense honest and pull trigger when he's open. He's passed up several open looks recently IMO.

If he's not starting, Holt should be splitting time with Hanner at minimum.
