Coach Jackson to Kansas

Recommended Posts

Well yea, what would you expect them to say? Heard the same when big Kenny left. These guys can be replaced and the new guy will be an important piece in the off season as well.

"How did Zeller get to this point? He credits his strength coach back at Indiana, Je’Ney Jackson, with pushing him and Hoosiers teammate Victor Oladipo hard the past two years."

The thing about Coach Jackson leaving is he was something that set Indiana apart from other schools...Even if it was just a perception, it was becoming a reputation. From a recruiting standpoint Indiana, because of Coach Jackson, would develop you into a physically elite player. Is he replaceable?..probably. But we will either have to try to hire another strength and conditioning coach away from another program in the middle of the season, or look to other sports for a new coach. The position that was listed through the IU website stated that resumes were due by January 8, which suggests they're looking to hire right away.

IMO, its probably perception more than anything but I agree his reputation had some impact on recruiting. Also agree the midseason change may put us in a bind. I predict the casual fan will see no drop off in the fitness of our athletes with the new coach.

Not surprised at anything anymore!  Maybe the writing is MORE than on the wall for Crean's departure.  Guys fleeing like crazy.  Sad news again for THIS Hoosier fan.

Guys fleeing like crazy?  Are you referring to our junior assistant coach that left in the summer and a strength and conditioning coach that left in the winter?  Fleeing like crazy...yeah...sound about right?

Kiss ANY shot at Thon Maker goodbye. This is what he liked most about the Kansas program was their strength and conditioning. They have now poached away our best shot at landing him. Who would have guessed that our program would have fallen this far this fast. We cant keep assistants and strength coaches. We are becoming a stepping stone program. Disappointing.

Are you referring to Cheaney or Johnson as the Jr Asst Coach?

One more thing on coach Jackson and then I'm done...I promise...

The guy and his family were out in the community ALL the time. From the county fair to the College Mall he was a great representative for the program that the public actually rubbed shoulders with. I've talked with him more than once in the public and thanked him for the work he was doing and he was always more than cordial...ok...I'm done now...

I think it is more perception that is the problem. He was well liked and well respected and was the strength and conditioning coach for a blue blood program in the best basketball conference in America and he left... That just doesn't look good. Similar can be said for Cheaney. IU should be a destination, aspirational place, not a stepping stone and in some cases it has been viewed that way. That has to stop

Countless walk-ons who "love" Indiana

Kenny Johnson
Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Je'Ney
Calbert
Video Coordinators
Etc....

All in a very short window! YES! I meant "guys fleeing like crazy"

you left out the large number of players that have exited recently too and our inability to recruit a big man/top notch talent right now
