So who's going to be the new Coach next year?

Recommended Posts

Florida has handled getting rid of Muschamp nicely. He walks away with 5+ million and understands he just didn't get it done, and he's allowed to coach out his last year. It will make asmoother transition. Lots to learn there imo.

That's the way you get to handle it when the program isn't total crap during the change over. There's a reason almost all coaching changes occur during a similar time period in the spring.

I respect your view. Just trying to shine some light on the scenario that NO one ever thinks about when things are bad and coaches gotta go. So easy to fire someone and it's fixed. That's not life and usually just the first step in long and painful journey that may end up somewhere pretty great.

But, if you look at old threads on this forum you'll find that we think about this all the time. There are ways to change coaches that aren't quite as dramatic as IU has done in the past. It absolutely doesn't have to be as painful as you think. Look at Minnesota. Fired Tubby Smith, hired Dick Pitino, added 4 wins the next season.

I wish Ben Howland's last couple of years at UCLA hadn't left him tainted. He's an excellent defensive-minded coach with a proven winning record and he's available.

everybody wants Stevens and so do I...

but if he is off the table, it's time to look at a young stud...

forget about the cash...let's get a guy that knows what it takes to make men that want to go into battle (basketball speak, not literal)...

a real leader.

Would Tony Bennett consider IU this time around? (He's making 2.3 Million, could give him a nice raise, although he might have received one after last season). Also, what about Sean Miller, obviously a pipe dream, but he started his career in the midwest.

And if not that Tony Bennett, then maybe the other one? He could write songs for recruits. I bet that would help.

I feel like if a coaching change happens, it will be a proven up and comer at a mid-major. What about Greg Marshall?

I mentioned him in my first post. I was just continuing with a conversation with Hurryin.

My first call is to Stevens. You have to check. My second call would be Gregg Marshall. I think he is fantastic and would be lights out here. It gets a little muddled after that. I think Hoiberg would be great but is at his Alma Mater. So I would be happy with any of those guys I listed earlier.

Someone who can coach defense without having to have an exceptional defensive talent like Vic on the roster

some of the first things I learned. Stay between your man and the basket, see your man and the ball at all times, put your butt into your man when a shot goes up...just a start and we do none of them! Or so it seems

Agreed. All better than Crean and none of them coming to Indiana...look at their history's and scenarios. Best bet from the group is Bennett

Then one of them would come. Lol. Bennett is on my list.

As for the others I think you are flat out wrong. Stevens is in a unique situation as he is at a better job. It's a lifestyle decision. The rest would all be taking a better position by coming here. They would be getting pay raises and they have all shown they are ambitious and wanting to move up the ranks. We will just have to agree to disagree.

I'll give you 3 options. (Pro, college, up and comer)

Give Brad Stevens whatever he wants.

If we stick to only college coaches Gregg Marshall is top notch.

Up and comer Danny Manning!

I love all three of those. Hadn't heard anyone else mention Manning. Not sure he'd leave Wake. That's in his growing up area.
