Revised Season Expectations

I have a huge announcement for some people here:

YOUR OPINION IS NO BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSES.

So please, quit acting that way because it will get you no where here. Either have good discussion without putting people down, or leave (unless we take care of that for you).

Hate being this way, but I get mad when people are attacked or ridiculed for having an opinion around here.

Only person around here that we can all attack is Naples, he's fair game.

word!

JayBob,
Remember too that just because some of us post a negative appraisal of the team, or the coach, or the state of affairs, it shouldn't become a source for personal attacks/rebuttals. I've been encouraging when things are worthy of it, and negative, when things have warranted it. My posts, no doubt, cause consternation amongst some of the other, more rose colored glasses wearing members of the forum, but they're no less valid, and therefore should be no more open for personal attacks than theirs. In short, if we're going to warn posters like myself against making inflammatory remarks, there needs to be a likewise attention paid to the more subtle digs at posters who don't share the sky is always blue mentality. They may not be as easy to target as mine, but they're every bit as dismissive and disrespectful.

Thanks,
Truehoosier62

P.S. Would have sent this privately, but apparently, that is not a possibility, (at least, according to the site).

I hate to agree, but I must. Some of the earlier posts were ugly, but I know where you coming from on THIS post. Respect should be mutual. I went through an event recently that had me pretty flustered. I nearly quit posting. I love this place too much to give up.

Just like we learn in Elementary School, treat others as we'd like to be treated. Interpersonal relations can be pretty simple.

You should be able to message. Your opinions will never be in question with us Mods, but when you put down others' posts. That's when we take issue. If you opinion is overboard to where there is intent, we will take issue.

You being frustrated is perfectly fine, but when you put posters down and call them names, you can't play innocent in this.

You were in the wrong earlier for what you called a poster, and that's why Reb posted what he did, as did I. You can't play victim when you call posters names. That doesn't work.

Everyone deserves to be treated with respect. However, respect is earned. You can't go overboard with posts and not expect heat for it.

38...

you realize that your 30's are almost gone and your balls have their own zip code...

yeah...that'll do it...

Unless you live in a place that you just can't be grumpy.  I've really, really tried hard to be angry about everything but it just doesn't seem to work for me.  Life is good my friend.

You called a dude a "sniveling ****". Are you seriously trying to play innocent. Guess I've seen it all now.

Edit: And you called him that for disagreeing with you. Seriously....

No, I called him that for being highly condescending and disrespectful in his reply to my post. Though his reply was more subtle, it was still very clear what he meant, and in that respect, it was no less vitriolic than mine. I'm sorry that I replied in such an inflammatory manner, but I'm not sorry for having brought to his attention his equal lack of respect for another person's opinion. Too many people here get away with the dismissive and disrespectful replies simply because they're subtle about it, but that is why threads like this one, or "Should Crean be fired" get out of hand in the first place. I come here to discuss IU basketball, not to debate my competence or diligence in researching my opinion.

SMU game change anyone's expectations?

Not really.

We knew shooting would be a strength and it is going to help us make up for a lot of our other deficiencies.

I still believe we outperform preseason predictions and are top 5-6 in the Big Ten, top 25 in the country, and we make the dance.

IF---and it's a big IF---we learn how to rebound and defend the interior better---we could do even better and shock the pundits!
