(2015) C Thomas Bryant to IU

Recommended Posts

maybe we should put Holt with him the New York connection

I'm sure they'll spend plenty of time together. The whole team lives in the same area and from all the interviews they hang as a team daily. Can't tell you how important that is for recruiting. When you can go in to a situation and see Freshmen comfortable with Sophomores and Juniors, that's key.

Which player is he being assigned to ? Anybody know? Hova, ya little sneak, where are you? :scratchhead: :)

Haha I'm not on campus on Fridays, so I won't see him until tomorrow most likely. Like someone else said, he'll be with the freshmen most of the time. And, contrary to popular belief, they don't all hang out (party) together. I'm fairly certain there are still "cliques" on the team. The difference this year is that the cliques don't hate each other lol. They're all friends from what I can tell, but they do their own thing in their free time for the most part. I'll see what I can find out tomorrow, but djsalway sits with the team at games so he can probably tell you more than I can.

Trouble at the 'Cuse!?! Article from syracuse.com this morning is below.

Thomas Bryant's mom, meet Marni Mooney!

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse officials have been invited to an NCAA hearing at the end of the month as part of a multi-year inquiry into the SU athletic department, two sources told syracuse.com.

The hearing in front of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions signifies the lengthy investigation into Syracuse is complete. It will serve as one of the final steps before determining whether the school has committed NCAA violations and if it will be punished.

Emily James, a spokesperson for the NCAA, said she can't comment on specific or possible cases, but when investigations necessitate hearings, they involve at least one Level I or Level II violation.

The hearing means Syracuse faces accusations of a "severe" or "significant" breach of conduct.

James said cases vary so significantly that she could not provide a baseline for a possible punishment for Syracuse. She also said most cases are resolved within 30 or 60 days of a hearing, but schools can appeal or new issues can arise.

When asked on Thursday whether he would be attending the hearing, Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim walked away from a reporter. Athletic director Daryl Gross also declined to comment on if he would attend.

"As my usual practice, and as you know, I don't comment on NCAA matters," Gross said via text message.

Kevin Quinn, Syracuse's senior vice president for public affairs, also would not discuss the upcoming NCAA hearing.

"As we have said before, we are working closely and cooperatively with the NCAA as part of an inquiry," Quinn said in an email. "We respect and are honoring the NCAA process and look forward to resolution."

Among those usually invited to hearings, James said, are school presidents, athletic directors, compliance officials, individuals named in allegations and lawyers for both the school and individuals.

It is not clear if the investigation is limited to the men's basketball team or includes other athletic programs at Syracuse.

I will let everyone know who on the team is assigned to TB once they come to the game tomorrow. Good possibility it'll be JBJ, since there isn't a standout freshman big man. Could be Holt though. Will keep you all updated on that.

Guys, don't get your hopes up. I don't believe for one minute the NCAA has the onions to hit a major program like Syracuse. Nothing has come of the UNC mess, UK continues its crimes against humanity, and nothing will come of this I fear.

How about going on a twitter rant about that if you hate the NCAA so much, @jaybilas instead of your usual redundant blather. (sorry I had to throw that in. He is a great analyst but I had to quit following him on twitter)

No way! The NCAA was all over the bumper stickers that sat Jurkin and Perea! They surely couldn't mess up a case of this magnitude.

I hate them all

yeah me and Jay had it out on twitter a few weeks back. About Coach K and team USA. He was dead wrong and steadfastly continued with his narrow minded views.

Generally, I regard him as forward thinking and intelligent but that exchange knocked him down a few levels.

The problem with the NCAA is that unless you self-report, there's really nothing they can do. Indiana's problem is that they had the integrity to self-report. It ended being good for IU though, because it uncovered the real crime of the Sampson era. It wasn't phone calls, what screwed IU was horrendous grades, failed drug tests and overall lack of character in the program.

The phone calls would have been easily overcome if the team had kids with good grades and high character. The next coach would have come in and hit the ground running.

^^This^^ is absolutely, very likely, true.

But, perception can affect reality, and a cloud of allegations + the possibility of sanctions  hanging over a program can have a negative effect on recruiting!

But we would never have had Tijan. Blessing in disguise.
