Good Guy Mike Davis

Recommended Posts

Davis was a deer in headlights, and deservedly so following Mr. Knight... I would have him coach IUBB again now that he has head coaching experience. He could definitely recruit (Bracey Wright for example) And IMO coach circles around CTC. It Ain't the same recruiting players to UAB as it would be to I.U. I look forward to Coach Davis returning to Assembly Hall and wish him well... I.U. with the win of course!! This man deserves a standing ovation in "The Hall" and I hope he gets it!

Time heals old wounds except for the General. The article left off many important facts like how he killed his future at IU with his recruiting in state. The infamous recruiting letter to Conley and His teammate. There was no mention either of his bailing on his team before he resigned and many other things. I always hated his offensive game plan, but overall I think his teams were better prepared to play over Creans. Believe it or not he was a better in game coach than Crean is. I also thought his in game antics were over the top(pounding his chair, storming the court) but little did I know they would pale in comparison. It must be something in the water here lol. His kids didn't graduate at UAB but his teams did very well. He probably got the shaft there. Overall, he's a good man and did his best here. It just didn't work out like many others.

Passive aggressive much? Keep tossing those negatives on the positives Champ.

The guy that blamed the fans for his failure deserves a standing ovation?  I don't think so.

Funny. So many people want to put the players transgressions neatly behind them and the coaches get hung on the fridge to keep forever. Amazing how biased this fan base is. Not quoting you JS as a counterpoint to you personally but rather the general notion.

HE still blamed the fans for what was happening in HIS program.  It doesn't matter if you want to blame the players or the coach (and Davis was an awful coach), it's not the fans fault and us fans are who he blamed.  Crean may throw his players under the bus at every given opportunity, but Davis threw our fan base under the bus when his teams sucked.

I wouldn't boo him, but he sure as h*** doesn't deserve any sort of ovation.

Give a guy who blamed the fans for his teams being crap and played the race card to get a raise a standing ovation. Yep, makes sense.

I couldn't possibly disagree more, the guy deserves to be ignored.

Tons of sports figures have played the race card. I'm sure you still root for some.

Forgive and move on. Standing O!

I disagree. Forgive and move on. Boo hoo.

Let the standing ovation commence!!

I'm torn.  As you can see from earlier, I hate the turd.  But this whole "forgive and move on" things sounds like the right way to live.

How about a compromise?  I hope we destroy his team and he leaves crying, but I'll forget him the next day?

Went to one of his practices. Real nice guy. That 2002 run to the Championship game was great. That team had good backcourt and frontcourt talent (recruited by RMK). We don't see that balance much at IU these days, sans CZ's two years. A healthy Coverdale would have made a difference in that game. I'd clap for Mike Davis when introduced.

Amen Bro, Coverdale and Jeffries were both gimpy, but poor Tom kept rolling his ankle.  Our first round game against Utah he had like 18pts and led the team in scoring and then he hurt it, and then the next game against UNC Wilmington, he rolled it real bad, and pretty much the rest of the tournament he was at about 60%.  The comeback win against Duke, Tom didn't even score until the very end, and he was noticeably hurt.

The team, like you said, was incredibly balanced.  We had a very tall front line with Jeffries, Newton, Odle, and Leach, and we had unbelievable shooting, but most of all we had killer defense.  Our half court defense was maybe the best in the nation that year.  It's still to this day, my favorite IU team, and I have almost the entire season recorded and every now and again I'll break out some of the highlight games of that year, just to cheer me up.  God I want us to get back to that point again, and I honestly thought we were 2 years ago.  I know it's just a game, but my life is so much better when IU basketball is rolling.

If you don't like what I have to say, put me on ignore. But calling me passive aggressive isn't even close champ. You will be easy to spot at the game as you will be the only one standing during Davis' introduction. I don't like Crean much, but at least he loves Indiana and what it stands for. Davis hated it all the way to his next stepping stone to the NBA. Oh, that's right, he got fired at UAB and is finally at his destination job at Texas Southwest Presbeterion State of the Blessed. Sampson even made it back to D1. It's great Davis seems content now; much like the General in a different way.

Absolutely and good point about their defense. They were really playing well on both sides of the ball.
