People have called Illinois a sleeping giant for over a decade now. Most Chicago recruits and their parents aren't interested in Illinois. It's that simple.
The program has been in the toilet except a few good years bruce weber had

Back in the day ole Lou Henson got some Chicago talent the old fashioned way. Much like Bill Self acquired his collection of talent there and continues today at Kansas.

For what it's worth, Goodman goes on to say that he thinks Hoiberg's style is more suited for the Big Ten. If a coaching spot were to open up.

I don't see many BIG jobs opening up. Pitino at Minnesota i think would be the most likely opening. Nebraska and Iowa are having good years so far but that needs to continue. Underwood is only in year 2. Regardless, he will get another year. Their schedule has been brutal so far but the 2-6 record is disappointing and they do have some talent on that roster.

And Bill Self of course before he bolted.

Weber had his best years with Self's players. I don't think Illinois has even come close to the recruiting classes Self put together of Dee Brown, Deron Williams, Luther Head, Roger Powell, James Augustine. Those teams had some talented, tough players. Someone has be able to to recruit Chicago to be successful there.

Completely agree. Could awaken a sleeping giant. It is enough for me to hope Underwood does reasonable well this year. However, I don't think he is very well liked in Chicago atm.
Even if they have a terrible season, I have a hard time seeing Wittman firing Underwood. He just gave an extension to their FB coach and they have been terrible under him

The Big 10 this year is good top to bottom. I don't see any easy games this year. I can't remember a year where it's been so strong top to bottom.

That’s so nice to say about Illinois.

Rutgers ain’t playing like a bottom feeder; up five at the half at Wisconsin.

Roger that ... Kinda of what led to my post.... Rutgers looks solid this year. Not going to be easy in league play...

It was better Zellers Sophomore year I think. Indiana, Michigan State and Michigan spent a lot of time in the Top 10-15. Ohio State and Wisconsin were good. Minnesota and Illinois hit Top 10 that year as well.

I agree Joe that year had more really good teams. I think this year it's stronger at the bottom, but that year probably had more 'really good' teams. Hard to tell. I just don't see any show up and win games this year. Hard to tell, until the year plays out.

I agree, the B1G had the most talent that year that I've seen to date. But time will tell with the current rosters..

Also, don't forget Kaminsky at Wisky and LeVert at the top of that 1-3-1 at Michigan.

wow what a call for Wisky ... I'm not sure anyone gets the home cooking like Wisconsin. IU used to back in the day ...

Yeah I think Wisconsin had 3 fouls called against them in the first half, and one of those was against Trice when he fouled on purpose in the final 0:10 of the half because they had a foul to give to prevent RU from running a play.

I just don't get refs and Wisconsin.  It's like someone at UW has the goods on all college refs.

How did Wisconsin go from 22 to 12?

Won on the road @Iowa who was AP
#14
Ap polls are meaningless. Look at Gary Parrish article each week caller polls attack
https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/poll-attacks-an-ap-voter-from-montana-has-no-idea-clemson-lost-at-home-to-nebraska-last-week/

Wisconsin has a great early resume
They have NET ranking of 6
Only loss is to net-1 Virginia
2 true road wins @iowa(net 25), @xavier(62)
Neutral wins Oklahoma (21), Stanford(96)
SOS- 5
For this early in the season that’s a great start to build a resume

The NET ranking won’t be trustworthy until March. Wisconsin hasn’t looked that good and there was no reason for them to jump from 22 to 12 after beating Iowa and NC State. Coaches only moved them up 6 spots. Media just has a major hard on for Wisconsin.

Depends on who’s watching them I guess because I’ve seen everyone of their games and I have no problem with them being moved up to #12. They looked good to me
