Phinisee wouldn't come in as a 25 mpg player so you can sell him on a role while going after Garland. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Now days some teams play with 2 point guards. You get a coaching staff with superior judgment which can accurately assess whether they have a legitimate shot at actually closing the deal with Garland, so that we don't waste time, energy, and attention that could be spent on a fantastic player like Phinisee. We haven't necessarily had that dynamic in a while, and I can't wait to see it in action. My life will be so much less complicated this spring and summer following the AAU circuit not having to keep track of so many kids on the various summer circuits. More focused recruiting will be a most welcome change. MoyeNeeded 1 Quote

I think Phinisee is a 15 mpg player as a Frosh as long as he is not forced into a larger role. Garland plays as long as physically able. They would easily play together without disrupting each other. I hope we get both, but I hope we push for Phinisee as more than a backup option.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote

Or it should be.I hope our list of offers lessens to a 1/4 of what it used to be. Supply and demand principles can work in recruiting as well. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Quote

Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Certainly and it should be a wide net, but I don't foresee CAM throwing out the multitude of offers that FCTC did. I've already cleaned up my spreadsheets so I can't go back to prove my number but I think we must have had close to 40 total offers outstanding; not all necessarily to '17s, and that doesn't include kids we were following but had not yet extended formal offers. tyappleg Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Cuz the Chris Mullin era has gone swimmingly at St JohnsTo be fair.. he inherited a dumpster fire. They went from 1 conference win in his first year to 7 conference wins this year. That's a pretty big improvement in year 2. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Crimson and Cream 1 Quote

Hovadipo Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 The anti-paying players side. Calling BS on Dakich's numbers there. WAY more than 20 hours a week. That's a full time job and then some. I admittedly don't have a strong stance either way on the matter, but the 20 hours a week argument is shite. ThompsonHoosier, mdn82 and IUsafety 3 Quote

I admittedly don't have a strong stance either way on the matter, but the 20 hours a week argument is shite. It's a multi faceted argument. Some kids hope to get that scholarship to not have student debt. Others just use the name on the front as a platform to market themselves for a year. The latter really isn't the NCAA fault. It is a NBA rule that makes this the best avenue for your top basketball player. I think stipends should have an increase on cost of living since it is truly a 7 day a week job. I would be shocked if the average kid isn't in the gym at least 5 hours per day for 7 days. I do agree with Dakich on the Tyler Hansbrough argument. His name means little outside of UNC. I don't think it is cut and dry as both he and Frank portray. The players if they felt they were wrongly used are open to any avenue they see fit. Did Frank not get a free degree? The average person does not get that. The average person that gets a solid degree has to take unpaid internships to provide better aspects to their resume. Open for discussion lol.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app ALASKA HOOSIER, IUsafety, Hovadipo and 1 other 4 Quote

Yeah the NCAA's "official" number might be 20 hours a week or something but there's a lot of extra time they have to put in too. I don't have a problem with letting players make money from signing autographs, selling shirts, whatever they want to do with their own likeness. If schools started paying players instead of giving scholarships though I think there would be some problems. I think there would be less parity between schools and I doubt that the bench players on teams would be worth enough money to cover their school expenses. In a free market I can't see schools dropping $50k a year on players 11-13 on the bench. Hovadipo 1 Quote
