Ooof.

54 years old, has never coached college ball at any level, and has never been a head coach anywhere, at any level... ever. Apparently 5* Mitchell Robinson now leaves Western Kentucky to play for Ewing and his godfather (who will be on Ewing's staff) but still:

Ooof.

I think you have to gauge Garlands interest while putting the full court on Phinisee. Phinisee wouldn't come in as a 25 mpg player so you can sell him on a role while going after Garland.

Both would be the best option for sure. Garland as primary ball-handler in 18-19. Phinisee is a rotation player 18-19 and a primary ball handler after that season. I just don't know how amenable Phinisee is to that plan.

Welllll...

You get a coaching staff with superior judgment which can accurately assess whether they have a legitimate shot at actually closing the deal with Garland, so that we don't waste time, energy, and attention that could be spent on a fantastic player like Phinisee. We haven't necessarily had that dynamic in a while, and I can't wait to see it in action.

Are you trying to tell me that our old staff wasted time recruiting players they couldn't close on?? In the name of Theo Pinson, I say that is outrageous!

Now days some teams play with 2 point guards. You sell them both playing together with it in mind that Garland is probably not staying the whole 4 years and Phinesee will be your 4 year guy

My life will be so much less complicated this spring and summer following the AAU circuit not having to keep track of so many kids on the various summer circuits.  More focused recruiting will be a most welcome change.

I absolutely agree. I think Phinisee is a 15 mpg player as a Frosh as long as he is not forced into a larger role. Garland plays as long as physically able. They would easily play together without disrupting each other. I hope we get both, but I hope we push for Phinisee as more than a backup option.

OF- I bet our spring/summer net will still be large with watching games and expressing interest. Or it should be.

I hope our list of offers lessens to a 1/4 of what it used to be. Supply and demand principles can work in recruiting as well.

If we're going after Phinisee as a backup option I doubt we'll see him in candystripes.  IMO

Certainly and it should be a wide net, but I don't foresee CAM throwing out the multitude of offers that FCTC did.  I've already cleaned up my spreadsheets so I can't go back to prove my number but I think we must have had close to 40 total offers outstanding; not all necessarily to '17s, and that doesn't include kids we were following but had not yet extended formal offers.

Indeed. Excited to see how CAM manages the roster and recruiting.
