Kansas State and Marquette doing us no favors, however the metrics love us so far.

Still early for the metrics.  K State just dropped 30 spots for that home loss.  Marquettes problem is they just haven’t beat any high major teams yet.   I’m confident both K State and Marquette will win enough high major games by the end of the year to at least be Q2 wins.   Maryland and Oregon are 203 and 192 in the NET this early in the year.  Do I think either are that bad? No but it is going to take some time for their numbers to improve

Indiana basketball is the definition of Mid in the power 5. All the things I spouted all off season are proving true.

Hopefully we can scrape enough to make the tournament. Projections say we need to go 13-7 to make it. Awful nonconference.

Glad the football team rocks. DeVries has a long way to go.

B1G took one on the chin yesterday. Illinois helped out.   Most the games I would have live texted about were all blowouts yesterday.  Still yesterday was the first big Saturday on the college basketball slate and I missed talking about in here with you guys.   Congrats to all the IU football lifers that got to experience that yesterday. You guys deserved it.  Hopefully the lights can stay on this time

I mean…you were worried about rim protection. As some of us pointed out there’s other ways to play defense besides to funnel everything to a shot blocking big. Devries has shown he can get an athletically limited group to play sound defense.

Our problems right now are offense and nobody really imagined that would be the case. Some of it is athleticism, but currently the problem looks to run deeper than that. Devries has his work cut out for him.

I’ll agree with you that whoever put the roster together needs to be reassigned to some other duty next season. You only need to look to Louisville who has two transfers and a euro big helping lead the way, but they’re more proven than ours.

Yeah.  I wasn’t only going about the centers. Speed and athleticism.  Counting on a very little enright to be the PG. Rebounding.  Just general roster build. Lack of proven commodities.  It was all so obvious.

I know people love Enright and he does the little stuff.  But he’s a ceiling limiter in a big way. Both defensively and offensively despite adding hustle plays.  I don’t dislike him. I respect him but I’d rather him not be the PG of the team I want to be a top in the country.

Conerway has been good but he showed yesterday where he stacks up to top end guards and athleticism and that was a problem too, including ball handling.

Just frustrating as it was all so predictable.

A better PG, a Legit defending/rebounding/shotblocking C and we could have had a nice team.  But we have what he have.

Our best lineup might be Conerway, Wilkerson, Decvries, Bailey, Alexis but we don’t have depth to even find out if that’s the case.

Dorns shooting was promising.  If I’m coach I’m trying Conerway, Wilkerson, Dorn, DeVries, Bailey/Alexis.

Ive been down on this team all offfseason and nothing is helping change my mind so far.

This is where you have a problem if you think this team should be top in the country this year

No, not the top team. But building with the intention and chance of being a top team. Subtle difference.

Isn't a little early to come to a conclusion that we aren't building toward that

Not enough info for me to come to any conclusion on how this season is going to go yet.   Eye test shows me they won’t be an upper level nationally in the first year.  Eye test shows  me they won’t get a chance to go 18-2 in their conference like some did last year because of a weak conference and weak conference schedule.  All I know this year is in a neutral court game against a top 6 team they lost. They didn’t take advantage of a Q1a game.  I also know they lost on the road to a team they probably should have beat but I’ve seen better teams than this Indiana team lose over there.  Law of averages tells you a program winning 9 straight against another team is probably going to go the other way sooner rather then later.   Unfortunately for IU the 2 high major non conference wins they have are not looking as strong as most thought.  Those teams have all year to figure it out to makes those wins look better.   IU is going to have a ton of chances to figure some things out and will have plenty of resume building chances.  When they start losing homes games to teams they shouldn’t then I will worry about this year.  For me they still have a chance to be  a tourney team that’s solidly in the field.  As far as being one of the best teams in the sports this year in my opinion no they won’t be that however I never thought they would be this year
Exactly where I am. I never thought we would be top 5 or 10 with this roster, but neither did I think that we weren't going to make the Tournament. Way to much ball to played yet to say we aren't making the tournament

Been a lot of great college basketball games this past week. How about that Purdue loss to Iowa state? Tied for biggest home loss by a #1 team?

If there's a record to be set by a good team for doing something poorly, Purdue always seems to find a way to do it.

I couldn't figure out why they were preseason #1. The Colts were playing a game on FOX back in October, and they got to talking about how Indiana teams were on a great run recently. One of them mentioned the basketball rankings would be out in a few days and Purdue would probably be #1. I thought I must have misheard him or he was just trying to give them some recognition after raving about IU football.

It's a long season of course, but right now I think there are at least 5-6 teams better than Purdue.

Predictable, maybe. Avoidable…nobody knows. I’m not sure what else was out there at what price on what timeline.

I know both Mc Neely and Conwell were guys I liked watching last year, obvious high major talents, and in the portal. It’s frustrating to see them both go to Lville and then torch us. But I haven’t a clue if IU had a shot with either. Iirc, Woody might’ve screwed the Conwell thing up.

We’ve still got a roster that can compete. Iowa at MSU the other night looked every bit the part of D2 guys playing against the big boys. Outside of MSU, UM, and Illinois nobody in the conference is going to out match us so much physically or athletically to make winning impossible.

Conwells family is from the Louisville area.  Kelsey tried to get him the year before when he got hired because he knew that was like his second home to him.    He already had a relationship with him when he entered the portal after Xavier.  DeVries got him on campus but sounded like he was going to Louisville. One of those where he knew where he was going before he entered.
