How is that possible? I thought the "immediate" eligibility rules were for the next season, not the current season when transferring.

It's strange to say the least.  And Aimaq can REALLY play.  6'11", 245 pounds, put up 19 points and 13 1/2 rebounds per game last year at Utah Valley (they are in the WAC)......WAC defensive player of the year.  Drew huge interest in the portal last offseason.  Heard from Alabama and Kentucky and had a final five of Gonzaga, Texas, Texas Tech, Washington, and Iowa.

Spent his freshman year at Mercer and averaged 5 and 5 in 15 minutes -- this was back in 2018-9.  Transferred to Utah Valley, sat out for his transfer year, as a sophomore averaged 13.9 points and 15 rebounds.  Last year averaged 18.9 points and 13.6 rebounds.   And he developed a three point shot, hitting 20 of 46.  Had 28 double-doubles in 32 games, three of which were 20/20 games.  Had 24 points and 22 rebounds against a BYU team that was ranked 12th at the time.  Also impressive is that a guy his size hardly ever went to the bench.....averaged 35 minutes/game and Utah Valley played in four overtime games -- in each one he played more than 40 minutes.  Only strike was really level of competition but he played pretty well when he did (BYU game above and had a 15/15 game in a win over Washington).  I think was is most impressive is the jump he's made each year he's played.

Have no idea why he would be granted immediate eligibility, though.  This will be his fifth year of college and he's already 23 and turns 24 in January.

BTW -- don't know if this is true but have seen it a couple of places:  there is an NIL collective that pays all 85 football scholarship players (plus the top 15 walk ons) $25,000 in NIL money;  additionally, there is a collective that pays each member on the women's basketball team $25,000.  Have to assume there is the same deal for men's bball players, just haven't found anywhere that is confirmed.  Additionally, Texas Tech pays players for good grades.  In order to be awarded money on these deals, a player must remain in school through the semester.  Apparently Texas Tech's semester ended yesterday.

Will be flipping between UCLA/Maryland and Western Kentucky/Louisville tonight.  Hoping that Louisville continues to be winless and hope that Khristain Lander can start turning it around.

FWIW.....never thought I would see this....Western Kentucky is a 7 1/2 point favorite AT Louisville.

Jesus...App State throws it away.  Wake Forest ball, 1.3 seconds left.

Seriously, with 2.3 seconds left, why didn't App State just send four guys down the court and heave it?  Worst case is Wake Forest catches and would have to get a desperation shot up from beyond half court
