Viewership goes up each round and comparatively not many people watch the play-ins, so the quality matters somewhat. But what it really does is water down the regular season and conf tourneys a little more, but the NCAA doesn’t care about that because they only get money from the tournament.

Well, if the play in games weren't stuck in Dayton and on a network only degenerates watched one weekend a year, maybe people would give a **** about them.

Especially since the additional games are likely going to be play in games like the first four.  Not sure why anyone would think those games effect the quality of the tourney….if so, ignore them and start watching on Thursday.

Plenty of people give a crap about them.   I go to Dayton with my wife every year for the First 4 and the place always has a great turnout.   If they expand I hope they keep the new games  in Dayton as well

Those are still good numbers though and is the reason they will keep expanding if allowed.   No matter how many teams they add people are still going to attend and watch anything that is associated with March Madness.

Honestly, I would rather that they expanded the tournament and eliminated the NIT.  So many teams from power 5’s turn those bids down.  And if you are a mid major, gives more potential 2 bid leagues.

Agreed with the NIT.  With that being said, If it is a bigger play-in scope, It would be great to have more regional games that the proximity would let others attend.  Fort Wayne, etc.

Dayton sells those out.  Get your own tournament.  We own the first four.  Got it here, you can't have it.

If you look at who the committee left out last year, they indicated the first four out were Oklahoma, Seton Hall, Indiana State, and PIttsburgh.  Looking at the NIT bracket and seeing what teams turned down bids, teams that would be next would have been among a grouping of St. John's, Wake Forest, Utah, Villanova, Princeton, Cincinnati, and Ohio State.  If you are looking at mid majors beyond that group to try to replace some of 'mediocre P5' teams, you are looking at schools like the North Texas and UC Irvine's of the world.

I think that an expanded field of, say, eight teams is most likely going to consist of a about 60% P5 and (at best) 40% mid and low major.  But I also think it's pretty much the only chance that you'll see teams like Indiana State get at large invites.

And none of them deserved to be in. If anything, it needs to drop back to 64. That was a perfect number. The more you add, the watered down it gets with teams who can barely keep it over .500 and teams that can barely win 8 conference games.
