How long has that been around?  15 years?

What were the best pre-1998 CBB hoops preview magazines? Or more accurately, who were the most trusted recruiting analysts/rankers during that period? I have a pretty meticulous IU recruit spreadsheet that has, I think, every scholarship player from the HS class of ‘98 forward, since that’s what’s readily available online.

I graduated HS in 1985.  SPORT, Sports Illustrated, The Sporting News, and Street and Smith's is what I read back in the day for everything college basketball.  I don't really recall any recruiting analysts/rankers pre-Damon Bailey.  I got most of my recruiting news from local TV and newspapers.

I always bought Street & Smith, Athlon and Lindey's

As much as that stinks for the B1G, we are now 20 years without a Final Four and 35 years without a title.

That has to be as bad of a streak as any “Blue blood” can lay claim to.

Well hopefully Woody can get us back.

Indiana sitting at 21 years since last F4. 36 since last title. Only other blue blood to go that long between titles is Kansas. They went 36 years between title #1 and #2. Longest F4 drought is 14 years. UCLA is sitting at 28 years since their last title. Longest F4 drought was 18 years after the 1980 F4 was vacated. UNC went 25 years between title #1 and #2. Longest period without a F4 was only 11 years. Duke went 9 years between title #2-#3 and between #3-#4. Actually sitting at 8 since #4. And longest period between F4s is 12 years. Kentuckys longest period without a title was 20 years between #4 and 5. And longest F4 drought was 13 years between 98 and 2011.

Good research @Loaded Chicken Sandwich

Most of our fans at this point—say 40-45 yrs old and under—have not experienced rooting for a championship level blue-blood program.

Bringing it back to the original graphic, I think our futility, more than anything, is what makes the B1G look so inept. If that graphic has another IU championship or two and a couple more FF’s in that 25 yr span, the conference doesn’t look so bad. Quite frankly, Illinois, Ohio State, and Wisconsin aren’t the programs that should be representing the B1G on the national stage. We are.

I’ll tip back my morning coffee to Woody rectifying that fact. And soon…even though I don’t think it’ll be this year.
