A Monday night teaser from Fraschilla.

Hearing something seismic on the recruiting front coming but I'm not a story breaker.  Going to sit back & see what happens. Seismic.

It'd be cool if it were something like WWW being arrested for money laundering and a certain empire comes tumbling down. Unfortunately, it'll be something boring like a shoe company creating another AAU tournament.

How does a full team get to play in this type of tournament and represent the USA?  Seems like a huge advantage for the team heading into the season having played additional games as a team.

It's not too much different from a typical foreign trip. The competition is better, but that's about it. It also solves the issue that they were running into in the past of not winning. Always before they threw a team together of guys from various schools and they didn't have a ton of success. Now, sending a team that's used to playing together actually allows them to compete at a much higher level.

Final score from the World University Games final:

  • Lithuania: 85
  • Purdoooooooooooooooooooodoo: 74

Purdoo got decisively beaten on the boards without Swanigan. Purdue is very much a two player dominant team: With both Vince and Carsen Edwards they are pretty good; without both healthy and in the game they would have big, big troubles.

Haas is Haas; his size creates some problems, but he still hasn't really improved all that much.

More sad news from the world of college coaching.  On the heels of Jud Heathcote's death, today it was announced that Rollie Massamino passed away at the age of 82.  I've always remembered the '85 NCAA championship game for how his Villanova squad upset Georgetown led by Patrick Ewing.

UNLV's Dwayne Morgan won't suit up for the Runnin' Rebels this season, but will remain enrolled and graduate in December.

UNLV either has terrible luck with highly rated recruits or is not very good at player development. Dwayne Morgan was a 5 star. They also didn't get much from Goodluck Okonoboh. Rashad Vaughn was in that same class and was one-and-done though.
