To succeed as a coach, Tom Crean needs to understand more about people than he does about basketball. Basketball according to former Indiana coach Tom Crean – Winning Basketball = LB/7 + 3s(7) Simple concepts allow students to understand. Reducing the complicated into basic easy to understand bites of information is the key to allowing people to understand them. Basketball is an easy sport. On offense, create open shots and make them. Defensively, limit open shots and rebound misses. Easy. Former IU basketball coach Tom Crean became a former coach because he was very adept at needlessly complicating the simple. The result was confusion on the court, and a confused team is never going to be confident. Click here to follow Kent on Twitter Yesterday, Crean took to Twitter to share some hoops philosophy on the day many of the biggest summer youth tournaments begin in Las Vegas. As is always the case with Crean, the intent was righteous. He wants players and teams to play basketball the right way and succeed in a venue where it is rarely required.. Here is the tweet – “It’s hard to lose when your team is getting 70% of the 50/50 balls and getting 3 stops in a row 7 or more times in a game. Toughness Matters” Crean has taken a message about toughness, and expanded it to calculus so confusing I’m not sure what he’s talking about. Stops are good. Getting three consecutive stops seven times is bewildering. Getting the ball in 50/50 circumstances is good. Getting 70% of them is confusing. Why not 80%? Why not try to get 100%? Crean tries to reverse engineer basketball to create goals that lead to a positive outcome, but basketball is about five players simultaneously committed to a fundamental process through toughness and precise execution. Basketball is about process in the moment. Results come from the execution of that process. Get tough. Be sound. Develop skills. Yes, yes, and yes. Winning = LB/7 + 3sX7 makes a kid’s eyes roll back in his head. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Key word to all of this: FUNDAMENTAL. It's one of the things FCTC's players lacked, overall. Popular Post TXHoosierDaddy Posted July 28, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 28, 2017 The amount of undeserving scholarships Crean gave out was ridiculous. From Jobe, Bawa, Gelon, Priller, Guy Marc Michel and I'm sure i am missing more. Part of it is he didn't assemble an ace recruiting staff but the strategy to give out 50+ scholarships seemed to hurt with the higher ranked players. Everything about Archie is refreshing from his recruiting, to the staff he put together, to seeing the players conditioning program to scheduling better opponents. Thank you Tom for all you did to help us get back on our feet as a program but so glad you are gone! WayneFleekHoosier, Crimson and Cream, ALASKA HOOSIER and 6 others 9 Quote

I was blocked a while back for responding to a tweet of his that said something like "it shows a sign of weakness and lack of mental toughness when players put their hands on their knees during a game" I tweeted a pic of Michael Jordan doing that exact thing and got blocked lol. CSP Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Has it be a continual thing on this board to complain and knock Crean every chance someone gets? If so, I might be out on the basketball discussions on this board. Are their mods on the place? woodenshoemanHoosierfan and ebridges24 2 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Conversation will move on from Crean. It already has for the most part. Much of what Crean gets, he has brought upon himself. *most here-respect what he did for us and did it in as clean as way as possible. Fans are frustrated he couldn't fulfill his duties as we hoped for the program. People are going to vent. I personally don't understand why some people take the jokes so seriously. I read them, giggle or don't, then move on. As mods we aim to keep things civil, but we allow critiques of players and coaches.
