Ok, picking up a European pro mid season semester break is a bridge too far for me on this stupid deal NIL has become.

It further sends even more of the public to focus on college football, because football, as a uniquely American sport, is not affected.

Brad Underwood trying to flat out force the NCAA to do something about the current situation.

I don't see the NCAA doing a thing about it.  They have lost too many court cases and have basically become powerless because of it.  Congress could probably do something, but they would rather sit on their hands than do anything right now.  The P4 conferences are more likely to break away than the NCAA doing anything.

I’m in favor of paying players and while I don’t love all the transfers, we’ve had one or two years and done for a while, so players only being around for a short time isn’t new.  CBB TV ratings have been pretty solid so far in the NIL and portal era.

However, one thing I do require is college age players who are students at the school.  Yes I know some don’t go to class, but most actually do.  That’s the connection for me and I’d guess many others — the players kinda go to IU like I did.

If we get too many older, non-student age pros coming into the college game, that might actually materially affect interest, because it erodes that connection with the fans.  Teams will feel more like local pro franchises than the school’s team.

I can’t predict what happens, probably nothing unless TV ratings and attendance decline.  If that happens maybe the P5 gets together and does something.

It’s too bad.

IMO we will eventually end up getting the B10, SEC, and couple handfuls of other big programs breaking off forming their own semi pro league backed by VC/PE. Get a collective bargaining agreement in place with the players. Maybe the teams will start off leasing the facilities at the schools and affiliation will loosen over time. A "transfer" window (free agency) and relegation like with professional soccer.

If they stop being affiliated with the school then I am done. It would just be like the G league and I have no interest in watching that league. There is a nice brand new arena in Noblesville for the G League team and I have no interest in going to watch them play

Abdullah Ahmed may be doing the same sort of thing at BYU where he joins the team mid season at the semester break. He was the C choosing between BYU and Houston when Diane was committing. BYU is already a very good team/roster and now they go to the G league to fill a big hole mid season.

Sort of begs the question... in the current landscape, do you even want to start the season with all 13 spots filled? Or better to go in with 11 or 12 and pick up some amateur pros at the midway point.

You can absolutely set a hard rule that you have to be on the team and eligible by the start of the season to play in that season.  There would be no way to argue otherwise.  It isn't like some of their other rules.
