Can someone shed some light on this.. This kid had HUGE upside from a basketball perspective and was done deal to IU.  Now he is looking at Michigan State after we turn him down? Seems like we should have found a way to get the kid admitted.

Revisit the Kelvin Sampson days... Everything isn't about production on the court anymore, and shouldn't be.

Zach Randolph vs Jared Jeffries.  Those were the days.  It personifies the Michigan St vs IU image in my mind. 

 

I know its not fair to judge because Gary Harris is a good kid and Adrien Payne is likeable too.  Many others too.

 

But, it's funny how certain players can become the "face" of a program and what type of players they are "known" for.

To this day I do not know how Randolph made it to college for one year.  He got suspended a few times while at Marion for grades as well as getting arrested for guns.

Didn't know that at all..... Thanks for informing. I guess he does fit the Michigan State mold. I never liked Appling at all, not much surprise there.

The Lacey storyline helped Payne in the eye of public perception.

Well I'm glad we got Holt and don't have to deal with the drama anymore. I know Izzo is just trying to improve his team, just as we were, but man I'm sick of him cherry picking our recruits. Crean and Izzo have ties that go back years, but their styles seem drastically different. Crean likes to play small ball and push the tempo more, where as Izzo like to play bully ball and out muscle you. It almost seems ironic that we're competing for the same recruits since the styles of play are different.

If he wasn't eligible at IU, why would he be eligible at MSU? He didn't even get in to Oregon...and that's a pretty below average academic school

Lol while I agree that Izzo's offer always seems to be just a few days behind an offer from Crean, these kids are national recruits. It's fair game. IMO, Crean's done a better job recruiting than Izzo, but Izzo is definitely on a completely different level as a coach.
