(2015) JUCO PF Ray Kasongo

Recommended Posts

I don't get why we would take both. How do you over sign when fall semester starts soon. We would have to get rid of someone on the team right?

For 2014, yes, but not for 2015.

Nick Z is a grad transfer and only has a one year guarantee.

Yogi will have his degree in three and may not be back.

There is an outside chance that Troy or JB2 will go pro.

And that's not counting that there are invariably one or two who move on via transfer.

Huh? RK for 2014 and EH for 2015?

Sent from my place of advanced, analytical thinking: the toilet.

EH has a '14 offer and IU is pushing the '14 angle. I guess because they are the only school to do so they could back out (to '15) but that would mark a major change in their pitch and would completely change the recruitment.

Idk if they would do it, or want to, but would getting a medical redshirt for Hartman change anything for this year? Or am I off?

You are off.

Only a permanent medical disability with no return would allow IU to keep any injured player on academic scholly. Certainly not descriptive of CH's situation. For instance, Creek and Etherington's redshirt years were for medical reasons, but still counted against our 13 schollys.

I personally would be happy to get Kasongo and would rather roll the dice on getting a better player in 2015 than Holt. If we are winning again, Crean should be able to land some more studs starting with 2015.

Gotcha. Thought I might've been crazy there.

Don't know if anyone has seen this posting..........Just found this from a guy on 247. Looks like Ray Ray is going to be a diamond!

"Hey guys, new to this side of 247...I'm a Kentucky fan, lol, but also a contributor to ZagsBlog and know Kasongo personally, and I'll have a new article out on him this week coming.

Ray Kasongo is Class of 2014, but a senior in Kentucky because of transcript problems coming from Canada, so he's heading up to St. John's Northwestern Military Academy to finish up his last year of eligibility. Kasongo is a very long, strong forward who runs the floor like a guard and has almost limitless potential. His downside is attitude, it's not that it's bad, it's just that he has to realize the work that comes with being a player of his crazy ability and put in that work that it takes to get to the level he wants to get to, which is obviously D1 high major.

He is all of 6'8, and jumps out of the gym. I measured his wingspan at 7'1. His jump shot is decent, and great within 15 feet, just needs to work on that 12ft+ shot for obvious reasons, considering that should be one of his best weapons in college. His strength and speed are obvious advantages, and he will not have any problems with those at the next level. He has worked on his handles all year really, since alot of teams love his potential as a swing 3/4 with that speed.

Like others have said, his potential is crazy great, he's just a bit raw, but getting better every day, not only physically but mentally. Moving up to St John's Northwestern Military Academy not only exposes him to much better competition, since SJNMA (what a crappy acronym, lol) plays top level team from all over America, the program is as close to college as it gets thanks to Head Coach Brian Richert...This will undoubtably help Ray in his transition to a higher brand of basketball.

Kasongo's offers so far are UCLA, Arizona, NC State, Cal, Stanford, DePaul and tons of JUCOs. He has quite a bit of interest from Kentucky, Ohio State, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Wright State, and many more.

His stats at Pikeville High School (Pikeville, KY) in the 2012-2013 season, where he came one game away from heading to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena, but lost to another talented big man and D1 recruit, Forward Shane Hall and Johnson Central HS, KY for the second straight year in the Regional Finals...

16.5 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 6.2 BPG, 1.0 steal PG, with a 66.5 FG% and 51.0 FT%. Kasongo had 17 double-doubles out of 32 games this year. His highs this year were a 32 point game (along with 14 rebs), and a 20 and 20 game.

I'll post my article here when it's done later this week. I'm pretty close with this kid and want nothing but the best for him. Good luck to you guys if KU goes after him, I'd love nothing more than him be coached by a future HOFer like Coach Self (other than at my Kentucky Wildcats, of course! hahaha biggrin.gif). You all have a good week, and look forward to talking with you again later this week. "

The oversign is back on...

Adam Zagoria ‏@AdamZagoria  2m
Indiana would take both Ray Kasongo and Emmitt Holt if they could get them, source tells @SNYtv. Hosting both PFs early next week.

Now this IS major news. My take on that is both as 14s too. Hmmm...........

Do we have a Ron Patterson like situation????

My take is that it would NOT be both for 14.

However, the tweet is kinda cryptic, so who knows!

God, I hope Hanner is not involved in this. Please don't let it be Hanner!

I really don't know what's going on here but the timing and rush makes me think strongly Holt is still for 14.[/quote]

Hadn't thought about that. That would suck on a Purdue level.
