I love Troy and think/hope he's due for a big year, but having him be the backup point guard is a horrible decision, just like it was with Hollowell. A coaches job is to put people in a position to be successful and this would not be doing that for anybody.

I mostly agree but we were at our best in 2013 when VO was on point and playing at the top with the ball. He drew the attention of 4 defenders at the top of the key.

Troy may be able to do the same. Funny we went from forum banter of Troy at the 5 to Troy at the 1. Lol. Now that is versatility.

Although a small sample size, Troy did quite well taking people off the dribble from the top of the key. We didn't think Victor could do it initially either. To me, it actually does look like Troy could see time up top.

Well the difference between Troy and Vic (we all know there's a lot) is that Vic was a pretty solid ball handler his Junior year. I got nervous when Troy was forced to dribble last year. I'm sure he's improved, but I doubt enough to play the 1.

While he definitely had to make improvements with his handle during his career, Vic was still always a guard. Troy is a wing/stretch 4,not the same thing.

IMO, Troy is more comparable to Hollowell. Regardless, we don't want Troy initiating offense, we want him finishing it.

What are we talking about here though? Playing point guard and dribbling the basketball aren't the same thing. There's a difference between being the floor general, getting the team into it's sets, etc., and just making moves with the dribble. That clip was largely Troy just making moves, good moves for sure, but it wasn't him playing point guard.

Speaking of this though, remember coming off the tip of the Canada game that was streamed? Devin got the ball, brought it up court, then took his guy off the dribble for a basket. Now THAT was impressive.

True. But he very well could have been playing point there. Theres a reason why Yogi said Troy was next in line at point during the press conferences today. I'm guessing Troy played some during the Canada trip. Just an observation.

I don't think Troy is going to be bringing the ball up the floor. I think this simply means that Troy will be playing, a la Oladipo, with the ball in his hands in the half court with high center ball picks in the middle of the floor. IMO this was coming as Troy's ballhandling improved... if he's there already, IU is in good shape.

yep. Agree. That was my point with the Oladipo reference. Troy could be dangerous off ball screens with shooters spaced out!!!!!!

guessing that reason is crean has been trying that in practice, just like he did hollowell last year. Didn't make sense then and doesn't now. We have 3 other players more capable than Troy and that isn't a knock on Troy, he just isn't a pg

I think a lot of people struggle to consider possibilities outside of what they know as fans of basketball; Troy with the ball in his hands attacking the rim is a great thing... don't really see how that could be bad. If he's turning it over, do you really think he's going to be in that position? With the guards we have? Leave it to IU fans to overreact to a passing comment made in an interview, lbs.

Lot of concerns about this team...who plays backup point guard is the least of them. We have Yogi Ferrell, James Blackmon, Robert Johnson. In fine shape there.
