IU Hoosier41

Next Season will be a Success If....

If we make it to the NIT.

Progress, not perfection.

This dude.. haha.          Progress is good though, but let's focus on being one of the top 64 teams this year.  It's very do-able.

NCAA Tournament bid. We will be very thing upfront, but we now have the guards able to run this team. I will be able to take a 1 or 2 seed in the NIT, but anything below that will be a disappointment.

The interesting thing about next year is going to be how the fan base reacts to the results. Say IU overachievers a little bit but also is pretty far off from what we expect big picture as fans. You'll have segment of fans saying Crean overachieved and has things on the right path again, but also a segment that feels he's still falling way short of big picture expectations two years in a row.

Realistically speaking I will think of next year as a good year if we make the NCAA tournament and are at least competitive every game.

Yogi Jr top 15 player
Blackmon Fresh top 20 player
Stan Soph top 80 player
Troy Soph top 30 player
Hanner Jr top 50 player

Rojo Fr. top 40 player
Devin D. Soph top 125 player

Then....

Jurkin
Hartman
Priller
April
Hoetzel.......on paper these 5 are shocking for IU. Hope we catch lightning in a bottle on one or 2 of them.

Our Core 7 could be really good. We our one Vonleh/Ant Lee/Trey Lyles type away from being really good. Realistically we are one more year away assuming we can a stud or 2 in 15.

The sad thing is we desperately needed a BIG and a contributor and we couldn't convince a transfer or a stud 14 to take the spot. THAT is my biggest gripe.

Having Troy in the top 30 is a bit of an exaggeration.  Rivals had him just inside the top 50 (47), ESPN had him outside the top 50 as did 247 composition rankings only the regular 247 rankings have him inside the top 40.  None of the major sites have Johnson in the top 40 either, just inside the top 50 on all of them (247 comp is just inside top 50, regular rankings have him outside the top 50).

EDIT:  The difference between 30 and 37 is going to be trivial.  For the sake of accuracy though Williams was top 50 (that was the consensus, only one was top 40) and Johnson is top 60 (again, that's the consensus).

Either way. We have starting 5 talent. We lack depth majorly. I am still shocked by the April and Priller signings. Nothing against those players but they don't fit the high major bill. I am glad they are exited to play at Indiana and hope they work out but from the outside, these signings don't impress. I hope that forces Crean to shorten the rotation. I also hope Hoetzel is our secret assassin. I like how he played in the Derby game. A 6'7" shooter could be just what the doc ordered.

We do have talent, but a lot hinges on how big of a leap Williams and Robinson make.  If they absolutely work their @$$es off I think they could look about like Vic did as a soph, but that means an inconsistent shot and a shaky handle.  Blackmon is a stud, Yogi is Yogi.  Hoetzel I'm very reserved about, Hartman was supposed to be able to shoot too and he's 6'6 and they seem pretty similar athletically from what I've seen so he could be one of those players that contribute as an upperclassmen.

I hope April and Priller shock the world, but both look like reaches.

Agree, we do have talent, but much like last year it's a terribly constructed roster in terms of the balance and pieces. It's more skilled and playing in a weaker conference, so should win more, but is still a poorly constructed roster IMO.

I'm actually pretty optimistic about Hoetzel. I don't think Hartman is in his league as a shooter. I'm not saying he'll be great as a freshmen, but I think he's a lot better than Hartman. I think he's got an attitude and an "it" factor. A little bit of "Sheehey" in him, if you know what I mean

I was very impressed with how he spoke on some of those videos at the Derby thing. I was especially impressed when he was asked about the 3-pt contest and just said "I'm going to win it", then he went out and won it. I think we're going to be glad we got Hoetzel. Admittedly, it's more a hunch than anything else.

I see 2 ways it's successful.

1) we win 20-25 games and make the NCAAs. We can move away from the Crean on the hot seat conversation and recruiting will pick up.

2) we fail to make the NCAAs and Crean is bought out and we hire Brad Stevens. (Yes the money is there for both buyouts).
