IU Hoosier41

(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU

Recommended Posts

I enjoyed the part in the interview when Trendon spoke about how his brother couldn't walk around anywhere without being stopped for pics. That kind of fandom goes a long ways in showing how these guys are revered and remembered for being part of this program. I doubt that happens in Tuscaloosa.

There's probably not a lot of recognition there unless you've ever worn pads and a helmet.

His relationship with Christian wasn't the best so maybe he thought the family wouldn't want to be involved the next go around but the fact that he never asked/inquired is crazy and stubborn

What you have heard about his relationship or any of his former players for that matter? It seems like Crean burns bridges. With Indiana high school coaches he seemed to hold a grudge against them if their players didn't come to him. At least thats what I read on forums in the past. Not to mention anyone instate saw he couldn't coach.

Crean was pretty much self aware he wasn't going to get in state players that were top rated anymore. He burned too many bridges. People who get on us for wanting him gone are crazy.

It is of utmost importance to recruit this state. This state has way too many good players to not recruit it. Archie gets it

We hired three straight coaches who either ignored or turned off the majority of instate recruits. You couldn't make such bad hires if you tried. Unreal. We wasted twenty five years with poor decision making.

These are some of the coaches we could have hired over the last fifteen years, for better or worse:

Pitino (available in 2002 but we kept Davis instead)

Matta (available in 2004 but we kept Davis after a losing season)

Calipari (available in 2006 but we hired Samsum instead)

Brad Stevens (available in 2011 but we kept Crean and his 28-66 record)

Billy Donovan (available in 2015 but we kept Crean after a 20-14 season)

Too true lol. Kinda sad too. But I think IU finally got its guy

Crean used to get when he took the job. He did well at first at getting the in state players. Pretty much after 2012 it all came crashing down. I have much more confidence that Archie won't let that happen.

We lost out on Deshaun Thomas, Marquis Teague, Gary Harris, Branden Dawson, Kellen Dunham, Mitch McGary, GR III, and AJ Hammons before 2012. Trey Lyles decommitted before the 2012-13 season. The warning signs were there.

I think Zeller picked IU because of local pressure more than anything.

I do think Cody was happy with his decision in the end. Maybe not so much the bball end of it, but just going to IU i think he loved.

Alot of kids and coaches after the Syracuse beatdown realized that CTC was not a good coach. There are probably 30 or more high school coaches (oh what the hell!) posters on here that are better at X's and O's than Crean. From ALL accounts, Archie alot better. This will regain the confidence of the coaches and players instate.

Crean didn't recruits Brooks OR Watford. That's beyond dumb

I'm of the belief he didn't want a whole team of major talent. He wanted the projects to show how he could develop players. Of course maybe with the exception for VO and perhaps OG I didn't see it much. Of course a very good case could it was all those players wanting it. I'm with the latter

Oladipo's development blew my mind. Crean had some hand in that but I agree with your premise. It was more of VO and OG wanting it rather than Crean coaching them well

Yeah, this should be about the recruit.  I wasn't trying to get that far off topic.
