To be honest this is an attitude that I hate. Kentucky fans were mocking us for this very attitude and they were right to. Beating an overrated 4 seed in the round of 32 isn't an accomplishment that should be celebrated and touted as fodder for impressing recruits.

Dont get me wrong I enjoyed beating them in the round of 32 but it wasn't that impressive.  If we had beaten the Kentucky team from a year earlier that would be a different story

We are sadly still at a point where we have to sell kids on what we can be other than what we are. Wilkes could help put an end to that though because with him we should be able to field 3 straight big ten contenders/champions.

What is particularly frustrating I think for some is that after the Zeller and Yogi commits in back to back years we thought we had retaken our backyard and it sadly wasn't the case.

Ok you hate my attitude. Wow. Who is Kentucky? They are the team that gets the best of the best. We beat them and it is no big feat? Really? Damed if you do and Damed if you didn't! Amazing!

We are doing it the right way and while not as fast as some would like we are winning and beating teams like Kentucky in the big dance. To me that is huge. I am so pumped to see our TB and OG along with all our very capable Hoosiers play this year. Go IU!

Beating puke in the round of 32 is nothing to sneeze at. It was nice to see IU return to the Sweet 16 beating our rival. With all that said, puke, in their current recruiting method, will go how the class goes. Last year the overall re ruining class was down and that was reflected in pukes loss in the round of 32.

You don't brag about beating a name you brag about beating a quality opponent regardless of the name. We beat a pretender and then got steamrolled by one of the teams that actually was a contender.

We brag to a recruit about beating Kentucky and all we do is set the stage for other coaches to point out that Kentucky was having a down year and look what happened to us when we faced a real team.

Right on, I think he'll do a final 8 or so.

IU, UM, UNC, UCONN, UCLA, Washington, Xavier, and Butler. Same, just guessing.

I was thinking a final 7 or 8 not a final 11...  8 of 11 isn't bad though.  I must have missed the Arizona love, where did that come from?  I still don't see how Illinois is getting commits from top players and other top players are including them in their final schools.  I believe O$U lost their in with top Indy area players but pap probably knows more about that than I do.

In March good teams win and good teams lose. It is just a shame when you cant celebrate your team winning. Some always have that never good enough attitude. It was a win I love against a team that I absolutely HATE! I'm sure I'm not alone here and it had one hell of a TV rating....America was watching!

So did you just skim over the part in the topic where I said I enjoyed the win. But just because you enjoy something doesn't mean it's worth bragging about

Ok I am done with this. Kentucky not being a quality opponent after what they do year in and year out in recruiting?? If good ol John could actually coach he would have that undefeated season that he covets. We beat them and good for us. End of story! I can't wait for the upcoming season! Go IU!

Quality opponents are not determined by any year prior or after. I suppose the year they went to the NIT you would still consider them a season defining win.

Wilkes will not be impressed at what we are we have to sell him on being part of a better future.

No, but they were a 4 seed every analyst agreed should have been a 2 or at worst a 3. Campus lifestyle and proximity to home will certainly hold some weight whether you want to believe it or not. I hate Kentucky as much if not more so than the next, but they were a good team last year. As the top 4 seed they were considered the 13th best team by them and everyone else had them top 10.

As for the game itself it shouldn't have much bearing on his decision as they are not on his final list. I am guessing this becomes a UNC vs IU battle much like Zeller was.

It's a shame we don't have looming sanctions helping us out on this.

Not trying to be a jerk but do you know if IU beating ky in the tourney last year will or will not impress him?  Personally, I consider any top 25 win a quality (solid) win and ky was probably a top 10ish team heading into the tourney.  Regardless, it was a win over a rival in the tourney and I don't see how that is a bad thing or why fans on the same team would be arguing over it.

With UNC in the running I think we would want to keep any discussion away from this years tourney.

Say we boast about this Kentucky win. What happens when UNC talks to him. They talk about how this Kentucky team wasn't a real contender and what happened to IU when they faced us.

If Wilkes cares about the past we need to avoid the topic because it doesn't makes us look good.

Personally, I wouldn't avoid the conversation.  That just seems like you are hiding something or trying to guide the conversation in a certain direction without being completely open.  I would answer the question head on and be honest.  They were better that night and hit a ton of threes, both contested and open.  We need you (Wilkes) to build our talent to win another B1G regular season championship, go deep into the B1G tourney, and get over the Sweet 16 to challenge for a national title.  If we can add Wilkes on the wing with OG in the starting lineup that could be one of the best 1-2 punch on the wings.  If we land you we need you to work on your '17 recruiting class to increase out talent level.  When we get our team with you as a feature we will go deep into these tourneys.  Look back at those Indiana players on those teams, they are forever remembered in IU lore.  You can have that opportunity here at IU.

Just my thoughts on how to approach it.  I wouldn't even take digs at UNC's current situation but I would without a doubt emphasize to his parents about Zeller returning to complete his degree, Oladipo getting his degree in three years, other players completing their degree in three years, some players doing grad degrees before leaving IU.  Marni is a great asset to the program and she does a wonderful job for our men's team.
