Was given a hefty sum to fix it as well. If the going rate is a 35% increase this year and the thought is you need 18 mil for 5 impact starters from the portal, then I’d assume Michigan had 15ish mil last year. Which is almost what they spent on football,18 mil. For reference IU was 21 mil plus last season for football.  
 

Michigan already winning a football title spent more on basketball and won big. IU spent more on football and won a title. But now it seems IU isn’t going to shift funds to raise the nil to that 18 mil mark. They seem content to contend in football and then slowly build on basketball. Probably 2 more years before IU can realistically think they can compete for deep runs in March if things go well with high school recruiting. Or if DeVries and Carr hit it out of the park with their evaluations of portal players it can change quick.

Oh wait is this the guy who was recently citing what you heard on a Michigan FB podcast when incorrectly evaluating the Illinois basketball team?

UM did not spend $18M on football last year.  Double that and that’s closer to correct.

Not true. They spent  boat load this offseason with the coaching transition but that didn’t happen last year. Boosters were souring on Sherrone and rightfully so. Ohio State spent over $30 and were tops on the conference in NIL spend.

It is true.  Everyone knows this and heck just look at your roster it’s so obvious what all these sort of players cost.

I mean you’re telling me UM had the standard $14-15M of rev share to football, and they only found $3-4M of NIL on top of that? 

It’s a free country like UM FB if you want, but you’re in la la land if you think UM spent $18M on their FB roster last year.  That’s so far off.

Okay.  Well last point of clarification is 2025 IUFB’s whole roster cost ~$21-22M, that’s rev share and NIL.

From On3 they had IU at 21 mil just NIL and then add your rev share. Either way it doesn’t matter to me. IU spent what they needed to compete in football and I pulled for them to win it all. Michigan did the same in basketball. I’d like IU to spend some more on basketball this portal window to get back to competing immediately but I doubt it happens. If they don’t I hope they drop some decent amount on some high school recruits this fall.

On3 is often wrong.  Cig said in an article our roster cost low 20’s and I know several people that work with our collective that confirm it.

Point being 2025 IUFB wasn’t near as money driven as people think.

As for IUBB, I think CDD will need to show traction and some success before he can get top-10 roster budget.  But, the #10-15 he has this year is still pretty good.

Found it interesting Rabby has been saying 12 mil for awhile now. Then on the hysterics pod over the weekend Eric said he had heard more money had come in but not enough to get to the $18 mil. Then later the talked like $14 mil was the number. So maybe fundraising is still occurring.

It is.  Scott is doing a great job getting a pretty decent chunk of change to bball despite a terrible last decade.  Big question is if our staff can convert it into a good team for once.

Been a few good months for the B1G. 

CFP champ: Us
Women's hockey champ: Wisconsin (beat O$U in the title game)
Women's basketball champ: UCLA 
Men's basketball champ: Michigan 

And in men's hockey, Michigan and Wisconsin are on opposite brackets in the Frozen Four. Wolverines play Denver and Bucky plays North Dakota on Thursday. Winners play Saturday. Michigan is the top overall seed.

Sure. I think we need to be prepared for 9 mil for top 3 if needed. Or go 3.5 for the top guy and then a couple 2.5 for the big 3. Plenty of ways to split the pie.
