Every personnel situation is different. Cig replaced a "who cares" football coach with no support and few personal connections to the university. It was a clearly different situation replacing Mike Woodson with his ties to the Board of Trustees and significant boosters.

Dolson did not have the ability to "man up" and leave Woody's things in boxes in the parking lot. Sure, Dolson could have resigned if he felt strongly enough, but instead he was patient and ended up with the head coach he wanted for both slots.

Didn't answer the question.  But I will.  Cig would not have tolerated that for one second, situations be damned.  That's why he's a winner.

Making decisions quickly and decisively and not being a victim of escalation of commitment.  45 days to assemble a staff is ridiculous.  Dolson should have been all over DeVries.

I manage an onsite vendor at my job and if they aren’t filling open positions I’m asking them what’s the hold up.

And obviously the retread of holding onto coaches clearly after they have hit lame duck status.

Look at Cig he moves fast and doesn’t waste time. We won the rose bowl and signed the bulk of our class nucleus all in the same week.  While preparing to obliterate Oregon at the same time.

Our basketball program can’t seem to do anything quickly.  Which might work if we were doing things well.  But instead we get a mediocre effort 3 weeks late.

Absolutely correct. Much more difficult to do what Cig did vs basketball but he got it done in the middle of the playoffs. The difference between elite and mediocre.

Bc Cig had open range to do what needed to be done. Nobody gave a crap about IU football before him. Every hanger on wants to have a say in IU basketball and it’s just muddles everything. It’s how we have ended up with situations over the years. Dolson hired his guy. Let’s not bail on him after 1 year and actually support him. If after 2 years things aren’t better then the seat will be hot without the fanbase complaining nonstop.

I listened to some of the backhome network pods this week and it pissed me off when Scott was saying DeVries should expect crap for the failures of those before him. No he shouldn’t. That’s just a toxic environment and doesn’t help anything.

Doesn't mean he will succeed (or fail) at IU, but every little thing is relevant and this was part of the initial hand Devries was dealt.

Losers whine about the obstacles

Every loser we hire gets the same excuse made for them.

Crean didn’t know the mess he was getting. Archie didn’t know the mess he was getting.  Woody didn’t know the mess he was getting and now DD didn’t know what a mess he was walking into.

If the door is closed you open or break it down.  Stop letting obstacles lead us to failure.

This fans base wants to be successful.  But aren’t willing to have standards and expectations.  I think Bob Knight said something about that

Yep. Paraphrasing, everybody wants to win, but not everyone is willing to do the work required to win.

Your post is a recitation of non-specific catchphrases.

Every situation is different and the details of each situation are absolutely relevant.

Will Devries succeed? I don’t know. But I do know it’s too soon to tell, that Devries hasn’t whined at all, and that “breaking down a door” sounds like a slogan, not a way for a coaching staff to establish a consistently winning program.

Don’t enter the transfer portal without a complete staff when your team isn’t even playing in the tournament.

How’s that for tangible non slogan catch phrases thats a very clear bare minimum.

Not having a staff after 6 weeks is insanely stupid.  Coaches are lined up and hired all the time while they are still coaching.

Getting strung along by candidates trying to get a bigger offer elsewhere isn’t an excuse. It’s a screw up.

Yes! Sub-optimal first few weeks that contributed to a meh first year.

Doesn’t mean all is lost; means learn from it and do better.

One thing to note if it hasn’t been mentioned yet is the final four weekend is when a lot of coaches try to have meetings with other coaches. So if we have assistant movement, then I bet we start hearing things final four weekend or soon after.

Drew Adams can't get fired soon enough.  Worthless, and a POS in real life to boot.

Man this seems random.  Would love to know more here. Anything to DM or something you want to share on here?
