Lauren Hurst held an IU offer.

I believe she had one incoming freshman to decommit, and the other looks to be staying.  Caldwell has her work cut out for her.

First commit out of portal:

Decent body to get on the board so early in portal. If idea is for her as 7th to 8th player in rotation I like it and gives more depth than past.

If plan is for bigger role, not good. Have to see if this is first get before several higher end players coming later, before I make full evaluation of portal class.

When Virginia fired her Coach (Amaka Agugua-Hamilton, who was a good assistant coach here under Coach Jack), Kymora Johnsonentered the portal.

"Johnson was named an All-America Honorable Mention by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the association announced Thursday (April 2).
Johnson averaged 22 points, 5.7 assists and 6.2 rebounds in four NCAA tournament games to guide Virginia to its first Sweet Sixteen appearance in 26 years as Virginia became the first team in history to reach the Sweet Sixteen after playing in the First Four.
For the season, Johnson was one of three players in NCAA Division I to average at least 19 points and 5.5 assists along with Olivia Miles (TCU) and Liv McGill (Florida). Her 19.5 points per game led the team and ranked second in the ACC. She paced the Cavaliers in 24 games this season including 12 against ACC opponents.
She set a single-game program record with 10 three-pointers against Winthrop and went on to set the program’s single-season (103) and career (231) 3-point records as well. Her 41 points against Winthrop also marked the second-highest single-game total in program history and her career total of 1,725 points ranks ninth in program history."

One "problem" with IU women & the portal is the question: are you looking for an Olivia Miles who is going to want big bucks, take over, and play all the time? or do you want more of a back-up or role player?

IU is (maybe) sort of set for next year with Z, Beau, Maya all expected to start and play full-time. Out of the Freshmen, there should be enough talent to fill the other 2 spots. SO, what exactly do you need or want from the portal? Injury insurance?

With Caffey gone I would think another point would be important as a backup if nothing  else.I think James is going to be a good one but Battle is more of a wing or off ball player IMHO.

Lol.  Either Caffey returns or better get close to an All American point guard.  By her a air plane.  No backup needed because James is a backup… she is not a starter at point guard as a freshman.

Caffey still has everything IU in instagram…this is just crazy

so does Noyan

IU has currently become a training ground for mostly mid majors especially last year.

Just like last year plenty in the portal to choose from….If you can get some because some are needed, currently, Crazy

Transfer Portal is a college fad.  Ladies who struggle to be average encourage one another to go be great, move on to better things, come to same school as me.  Typical college kids.Hahaha

I don't know if there is any such thing as a "bargain" in the portal. By definition, most people in the portal are dissatisfied, i.e. they think they should have played more, or been paid more, or that the team wasn't good enough for them. So, they are going to want "big bucks" or "more bucks", or bring some "attitude" with them. The question is whether they are worth it and can really contribute, or will be a disruptive force.

IU women have been lucky with the portal in the past. Don't know if you can say that about the IU men, or about most teams. For a lot of teams, it's shuffling the deck.

IU struggling in transfer portal vs Oklahoma State and reserve player with experience unless Caffey and/or Noyan comes back thus far expecting repeat of 2025-2026.

It isn’t. The next year is going to be just as bad as last year. Wish it wasn’t, our coach isn’t good. All the years of talking about how she wants “this kind” of player and “defense” it doesn’t work today. Z has some physical attributes, but wasn’t that great when she played. Beaumont was a train wreck many games, had a few good ones. She really isn’t and never has been any better than Lemandola who she came in with they were interchangeable. Maya can shoot 3s if she can camp and get an open shot. She doesn’t do much more than that. Iu needs some players. Nil isn’t an excuse. The coach openly never wanted any money but iu has the money. Players don’t want to play for her.
